Just recieved a Paradigm Pro 337 yesterday. Carry a Vantage Pro or Avid everyday along with a 301 or 309 and have always loved the feel of the Vantage series in the hand. Everyone I let try the Vantage models love them and agree they are quite the value. However some comment it would be great if had the asap system.
Also have several Sirus/Tempest models I occasionally throw in for edc but have not yet fully embraced the safety mechanism as I prefer when clipped to the pocket to not have it on but when loose in a pocket engage it. If I keep the hex screw snug it will prevent the safety from self-engaging while still allowing a good snap on open but if I neglect to tighten about every 4-5 times I carry it I'll find the safety engaged itself. But again everyone that gets to handle the Sirus models of mine love the asap system but some comment that the safety nub takes away from the clean lines.
Wasn't sure the Paradigm would be for me but after handling it some I am quite impressed. The system of sliding the bolster is not the most intuitive to me but has become quite seamless in just a day of handling. Feels just like the vantage in the hand, same basic blade shape and material as my vantage pro and avoids the tempermental safety of my Sirus models.
I am not familiar with the durability/longevity of the bolster lock over the liner lock of the Vantage but one thing a buddy noticed is he prefers the lockback over a liner lock not so much for a strength but to allow to close without placing a thumb in the path of a blade. The Paradigm allows that.
On the asap of the Paradigm it has noticeably more authority on opening then any of my other Buck's with asap. perhaps it's the sound of the bolster swinging back locked but def sounds crisper and appears to open swifter.
I've never found the safety nub on the Sirus to be any discomfort in use but the absence of it on the Paradigm feels significantly better in the hand during use. So after using the Paradigm for a day I now "notice" the safety on the spine of the Sirus in use.
If you've not given the Paradigm a try I'd really recomend it. For me it really blends the best of the Sirus and Vantage platforms.
