Paradox: Cold Steel's Spring Balisong

Not really a traditional balisong, but certainly using many of the strengths and features of the balisong design. It's very interesting and rewarding for me to see the balisong design influencing other aspects of the knife community.
 
I find it an interesting alternative design.

Certainly a two-handed opener. That would be considered a selling point in some countries.


I have the Blackrock Hunter and in use the design is serviceable when speed of deployment isn't a priority. I've used mine during a couple of picnics/cookouts.

For one thing, that CS is legal in Canada where as a real balisong is not. Some people will be happy enough just to have a knife that looks like a balisong although that CS doesn't do anything for me!
 
I find it intriguing, definitely nice for many states.

I like it because I haven't seen that design yet, it's different.
 
people forget how strong the locking mechanism is on a balisong. it isnt going close on your fingers, thats for sure
 
In my opinion it is "more dangerous" than real balisong.

Of course it won't close while open(same as balisong), but you deficiently need two hands to close it. It has slipjoint handles which make "snap" move when closing, and you have to hold the "sharp" handle to close this knife(as opposed to balisong, where you can do opening and closing using only "safe" handle).
Chance of getting cut is much bigger.
 
I handled one, and although the opening does feel awkward, it can be done safely. It just feels weird, though, when I've been carrying one-handed openers for so long.

The lock up was very secure, and holding in the open position does feel like a fixed blade. For the price, I think it's a much better knife than the old Triple Folder CS makes/made.

I will probably buy one this year, just because the mechanism is cool, and it look like a decent user. I DO carry two-handed openers on occasion. ;)

It's not like I live my life from one extreme moment to the other day-to-day. My life is pretty sedate, and it's okay to take the time to use two hands.:D
