I have always liked this Harley design but I don't know anything about the Paragon model. Is it a decent reproduction of the custom, materials and workmanship? How much did they cost and how hard are they to find?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sam

I've never seen the Paragon Battle Bowie, but AG Russell has some Paragon knives for sale. I bought the Paragon Drop Point Hunter, designed by George Herron. Like most Japanese-made knives, the quality is very good.

Using the way-back machine, I located a post from 1999 regarding the Battle Bowie:

Thanks Bob, that doesn't sound very reassuring. For some reason I can't make the "way back" machine work for me.

I sold a couple of these when they first came out. I was at the Chesapeake custom knife show in 1999 if I remember correctly and Larry Harley was there. I asked him about them and he was not happy with the grinds that the Paragon model had. He said they got the grinds all wrong. I'm guessing compared to his custom version.

i am always shoping around for blades and came across one of these in ar15.com blade exchange forum. the guy really wants to get rid of it and is willing to haggle.

I'm not 100% sure about the grinds,
but the handle felt awesome in my hand.
It's been awhile, but I'm still considering getting one.
It just feel so right.
But know that it is a fighter,
no two ways about it, probably not very useful for everyday chores,
Definately, also check out the smaller version,
the blade is a little different, but very, very sweet too.

I can say that the First Production run versions are awesome! I recently got one in a trade. It is a great piece of work. The later production runs did not seem as nice IMHO. This one is great though. Beautiful job on the grinds and the handle is the best! I think that the only way to find one now is to brouse the forums and wait for one to come up for sale/trade.

I have a Paragon Battle Bowie and Slim Battle Bowie that I got from A.G. Russell a few years back. I am quite pleased with both. The grinds may not be what Larry Harley puts on them, but they are well executed, symetric, and cut very well. I like the balance. Fit and finish are excellent. These are well made knives.
