A couple of weeks back, my 24 inch Paragon just stopped working. Not bad considering that I had it for 10 years. I took it to my local kiln guru. He said that the board was shot and oddly enough, all four screws holding the board to the chassis were missing. Monday morning blues at the Paragon factory I guess. He had a board on hand and replaced the guts and the keypad. Good news is the it was $375 total. Bad news is that I now have a pottery kiln keyboard. Cone firing here we come!! ;) What is really interesting is that with the original board, on full ramp, the oven might have overshot say 1500 by as much as 20-30 agrees before settling down. Yesterday during three thermal cycle firings of 1600, 1500 and 1400, it overshot by, at most 3-4 degrees and then went like 7-8 low before settling into like a 2-4 degree swing mostly on the low side of 1500. I asked he guy to calibrate the oven and he said that he used his very nice external test gear and the greatest variance he found form indicated temp throughout the entire test range was like 4 degrees at the high end. Interesting that it holds tighter with the replacement board than it ever did with the original one. It was all the board's fault. Since I have never taken the oven above like 1650 or so and I don't really use it all that much, the coils were in great shape. The relays were also good. So hopefully I get another nice long run out of it.
