Paramil takes some abuse.

I was riding my bike (not motorcycle) and the rear shift cable got tangled in the deraleur (sp?). It basically totally unwound the cable and there was nothing to do but remove it. I needed to remove it so it wouldnt re-tangle. I thought about it and decided I would see how my paramilitary handled it. This is a multi strand steel cable. I first cut one strand to see how it handled that. then took on the rest of the cable.

The edge microchipped and dulled signifigantly (from shaving to not slicing paper but still usable). I was impressed. This is at factory 30* edge.

In summary, it killed the edge but nothing more. I am about to bring it back, should be a snap on my diamond stones.

Thanks, Zerileous. I have not had occasion to subject my paramilitary to similar abuse but this is an interesting incident. Those brake and shift cables are hard and tough.

I too am impressed the blade went through all the strands.

Since resharpening will be done with diamond 'stones', do I assume correctly you have the non-serrated blade?

that is correct, it is the PE.
I was a little suprised but it took a single strand fairly easily. It required about 30 seconds of sawing.
A friend who I was riding with said he thought serrated would be better suited, but he didnt understand how weak my grip was on the cable. I doubt I could have held the cable in place while agressively using serrations. One little shift and I could have been stabbed by a strand.
