Paramil update?

I got my first paramil a few months ago and out of the 15 or so knives I have, I've EDC'd it the majority of the time since....
Havent found anything to close to replacing it: great materials, great shape and steel, and the perfect handle & blade size as my #1 user. (Of course, I have a Caly3 and a RSK MK1 coming so there will be some competition...:D )
I read on a thread a while back that the paramil is being updated.
Can anyone confirm this? If so, I'm assuming a new model will come out next year...
Just looking for the schtizz! ;)

Sal has asked for inputs on possible refinements. Beyond that, I have no information. Given the number of projects he keeps in the pipeline at any one time, I would advise against holding your breath waiting.:D

Thanks for the response... being perfectly happy with the mil works out for the best: wont have to spend more money for another.

I haven't really carried anything else since I got mine. I can't imagine any possible improvements.

yeah, I also believe the CalypsoIII is gona be a big challenge to the para, well, from most people who edc for small works only.

Caly3 is definately gona be a big success, no doubt. I guess it's time for sal to put more "tactical" mindsets into the para refinement? e.g., thicker blade?

Or even better: Spyderco can put an refined compression lock on it
"In addition, we have added a rounded locking bolt to replace the old liner piece for ease of opening and adding that extra eye-catching touch."

Reading through the threads where Sal asked for input, it occurred to me that there are a lot of people who "just don't get it" when it comes to the Para. It is nearly perfect for what it is. It isn't a tank, it's a Ferrari. It has enough handle to be comfortable for hard use for a long time, with a blade short enough to keep you out of trouble with the law in most places. It is light enough to carry every day without it pulling down your pants or ripping your pockets off, yet strong enough to use in self defense without concern for it breaking.

I have not yet bought a Caly3, but I have been carrying a UKPK for a little while. When it comes to a task like beveling a 2 x 4 to make a ramp to get a dolly over a door threshold (a recent example of the kind of things I carry a knife for), the Para gets the nod over the UKPK on gripability alone. I doubt the Caly3 will replace the Para for me.:D

Well, they're just different genres of knives....The para is quite a bit bigger, overall (open and closed), has a compression lock (which I prefer) and has S30V (which I also prefer). But, honestly, I think the Caly Jr's ergonomics will beat out the para, from the looks of it (haven't played with the new one yet), and I really enjoy its size. I wish it came in a liner lock or compression lock though.

I finally pulled my Para out of the safe and started using it as my EDC. I have put it through the paces over the past couple of weeks and I LOVE this knife. I like the blade to handle ratio, very comfortable in the hand. The blade is SUPER sharp and is ready for any cutting task. The compression lock is solid and the knife is very easy to open and close.

The only thing that I don't really like is the clip. The current clip keeps the knife pretty high up in the pocket, I would prefer a low ride clip. I think I am going to contact STR to see if he has any low ride clips available.

The Para-Military gets an A+ in my book. :D

I agree the mil does ride pretty high in the pocket... I usually end up carrying it IWB.
A thicker blade would be interesting but if that was done, I think you'd have to revamp other aspects as well. And it would make it a whole other knife...

After turning down the very first Paras that came out, I handled one at the gunshow this weekend and bought it. I wanted to replace all my other one handers and sell them. That's right, you read it here folks. I am going to just one.

So I think the Para is the perfect size to handle all folder tasks. A little larger and stronger than my D4 or Native, smaller than my Manix, Mini Manix, E4s and Ritter grip. No up/down blade play common to lockbacks. They're all going.

It sticks up a bit more in the pocket but that makes it easier to remove. I can live with tip-down. At work I will carry Inside the WaistBand. Whereas the Mini Manix, UKPK actually hurt a little IWB, the Para doesn't I think because it sticks up a bit more.

In a full sabre grip without using the choil, the Para is as comfortable as the Mini Manix but much more so than the Native or UKPK (and I assume Caly3 since the handles are the same)

The only thing that I wouldn't mind changed would be to tip up config but maybe that would make it less confortable IWB.
