Paramilitary 2 blade play

Hey guys, I just received a PM2 on trade and it seems to be a bit quirky. This is my second PM2. My first example would have no blade play no matter how tight I cranked down on the pivot and would still swing freely. This one I can have the pivot screws very loose and the blade will still not swing freely. Obviously this causes blade play. So, I tightened the pivot down snug to eliminate the play. Well the only way the play will disappear would hinder the knife so stiff it would need two hands to close. These two symptoms seems to contradict themselves. How can a knife have blade play and still feel stiff? Could this be an issue with the washers? Maybe they are to thick. I'd like to send this to Spyderco but I voided the warranty when I disassembled it trying to iron this out. Any ideas or suggestions?

Right now I have it adjusted to where I can flick it open, It has a small amount of play but does not swing freely. I can deal with the play. The stiffness bums me out however.

Check the tightness of the screw next to the pivot

Wow, why didn't I think of that. I loosened it up a bit and what do ya know. Works like it's supposed to. Thank ya for the insight.

It's all in the tuning. It took me a while to get the screws to the right torque, but once you do the action should be nice and smooth with no bladeplay. There is also an element of breaking it in I think, was this a well used Para, or was it new?

Yep, it's tuned in nice now. It was a used but in like new condition. Though the pocket clip wear suggest it was carried a bit.
