Hi guys,

I was looking for the PM2 with the black handles and black blade. However, this seems to be the most unpopular PM2 model. As such, there appeared not be be many actual user pictures turned up during a search. So can anybody post a picture or provide a link of this thing in a real life setting? I would love to see it in a realistic sense rather than on an online catalog. Thanks.

The screws, compression lock and tube are not black so it's not selling as well as it could if it was completely black. There is a thread on the Spyderco home forum complaining about it. If it was truly murdered out like the picture in the catalog and the all black Manix 2 it would be in my EDC rotation and quite a few more based on the other thread.

Interestingly, the person that traded it to me told me that everything will be full black including the screws after I asked. I guess we will wait and see when it arrives.

Ill post pictures of it if anybody is interested if it is indeed full black.

In the new 2011 Spyderco Product Guide it has photos on page 19&20 of the black on black and black on camo Para2 with black hardware but they have been shipped with silver hardware.Whether that will change or not,I don't know.Maybe someone from Spyderco will weigh in?I plan on buying one soon.

From what I was told, the PM2 that I am getting is from a batch that very recently arrived. Whether or not this batch is a "revised batch" I am not sure. The fact that it was from a new batch could simply mean that it was from a new round of production but the hardware can easily be the same as the original DLC PM2. I guess I will know in a few days whether or not my PM2 is full black.

If anybody from Spyderco can give some imput that would be much appreciated too because I rather not bother the guy I traded yet again. Thanks.

Me too--as soon as it looks like the one in the catalog. :D

I received a brand new Para2 with digi camo and a black blade. It was made this month. All screws are black including the pivot. Hope this helps

wow! nice. Hopefully this change carries over to the black on black. Is the compression lock black as well?

I just got a black/black from Cutlery Shoppe that had been backordered for about 6 weeks. The screws and compression lock are silver. I agree that they would look better black.

Was this the batch that got in 7/25/11 (this Monday)? I have a friend that wants to purchase from there but is not sure if the screws are silver or black.

I guess you could use cold gun blue on the screws but it would likely void the warranty.

I am kinda surprised at this new batch Para2. Not like the old PM2 and not like what was expected but kinda a hybrid. It has blacked out screws but the lock is satin... The black paint on the clip seems like it will chip very easily. Indeed, out of the box it was already slightly chipped on the side.

I used to only purchase black blades.. and after spending hundreds of dollars on knives only to have the black blade finish scratched and streaked my new love is stonewashed finish ....my days of black knives are gone...i suggest either stonewash or reg finish... the blacks only going to come off the blade with use and look terrible...

I somewhat agree with you but then again, coatings have come a long ways. One of my first knives was a CRKT M14 something and it's black coating was terrible, came off everywhere. Here is a picture of my PM1's black coating and it's held up pretty well, imo. You can see some streaks if you get the lighting just right but otherwise it's still black.

I read somewhere that the newer coatings are in the 70's HRC wise. Harder than the blade steel itself, so unless you're cutting diamonds, streaks like in the above picture are the worst case scenario. The coating will not completely flake off to bear metal.

yeah i doubt any of the new coatings would flake etc.... in my opinion it just hurts the looks with streaks etc... id rather start with a stonewashed which is much much better at hiding imperfections
