I received my first PM2 in the mail today. I have been wanting the knife for a while and have been saving up to buy it, so as you can expect I was super excited. But.....Here is my problem. I have a really hard time opening it. It takes great effort to "break" the detent then after that it does not open smooth. It seems like there is extra pressure on the compression lock. I have attempted to loosen the pivot and it did not help. I also attempted to loosen the screws on lock side of the handle to try and take some pressure off the liner and that did not help. When i open it I hear and feel rubbing and resistance on the pivot. But when i compress the lock completely against the handle/scale the pivot will move freely. I have read some posts on how others have had opening problems. I was curious if anyone could help me. I would like to find a fix (that doesn't void the warranty). I will send it back if I have too but I will be disappointed because I have been wanting this knife for some time. I feel frustrated and kind of disappointed. I understand spyderco's customer service is very good but I would like to avoid the hassle of sending it in if at all possible. Thanks for any help.

Not much you can do without opening it up. Unless it is very bad I would use it some. The tension will lessen over time.

may just need to break in. once you work it enough times, the detent ball will make a groove on the knife, and it should get smoother. you can possibly ease it up with some tri-flow.

Well after visiting the link Fat Goat Forge out up I attempted to rotate the stop pin and it didn't seem to help much, but I had a hard time getting it to turn, if anyone has any tricks on that let me know please. I also loosened the screws on the stop pin and the knife seemed to open a bit smoother (nothing like my Manix 2), but then I had noticeable side to side blade play. An email from Spyderco said it is probably the detent ball rubbing. I guess I will use it and hopefully it breaks in. That being said I have opened and closed this thing until my fingers are sore. I just don't wan't to have to send it in and wait 3 weeks or so and find out that the pressure is acceptable to their Q.C standards. I just feel frustration because all the reviews and posts i read prior to buying this everyone talked how this was smooth as glass out of the box, but not every knife will be perfect I guess.

Wash your knife in warm soapy water.
Using one hand on the blade and the other on the handle, open and close the knife carefully while under the water.
My advice would be to open it almost until it almost locks then close it all the way, do this at the very least 100 times.
Next open it all the way until it locks, then close it again.

Rinse with cool clean water, and dry the knife off and use canned air to blow the wayter out of the pivot.

Well thanks for the input and replies. I just ended up calling BladeHQ and they said they would replace it
