Hi Guys. Couple of months ago I started my humble Spyderco collection. And few days ago I ordered Paramilitary 2 for my collection new from eBay. When it was received I found some defects that are located on both liners (please see the pictures). I opened a claim on eBay about damaged item, attached pics, seller agreed with me so I sent it back and ordered a new one from knifeworks. When I received that new one I found absolutely the same defects in the same places. Please advice - what they are? Is it normal or not? Do your Paramilitaries have same defect? Thank you in advance. I am really do not know what to do with this knife now.

Molding/machining marks.... normal.

(I knew what question you were going to ask before I even clicked on your thread)

And, yes, all of mine look Ed Zachary the same.

It's normal, but I think it's disappointing that Spyderco continues to allow such obvious machining marks on the PM2. I've seen similar lazer cutting marks on the Ti Military's steel lock insert. I know they try to keep the costs low, but compared to the Taiwan models with their perfect fit and finish I feel these marks are a bit embarrassing.

Mine.

Yup, it is just where the cut starts and stops and it is on all of my Para2s. Enjoy the knife, it is my personal favorite. :)

Yup, mine has it too. I literally had to take out my PM2 and look for it. I can hardly see it, but it's there. I don't inspect my knives with a looking glass, so i wonder how the OP found it. it's barely noticable.

When I was first in the market for the PM2, I was very concerned about counterfeits. After receiving mine, everything checked out, but I still was only 99.9% sure mine was legit. I was and am still a noob and rightfully so or not, once I saw other threads on that machining mark, I grabbed mine and became a 100% sure.

I really wish they would stop making the Para and the regular Military in S30v, overrated steel imo. They should run those knives in Elmax or CPM-M4. two much better steel in every way.

I'm ok with the S30v, I would just like more handle-color options. I want a red Military w/ black blade and hardware.

I just wish CRK and others would include something like this to prove they're not fake. Only for a while though because the fakers will catch on and start doing the same.

Its totally hidden inside the nested steel liners and in no way inhibits the knifes performance. Both of mine have it. Im not sure if its from laser cutting or if they stamp the liners out, either way it doesnt bother me. Uneven swedges or grinds on the other hand drive me nuts and ill usually take them to a stone to even them out. I work as a machinist and have great attention to detail and these little imperfections dont bother me at all.

Respectfully disagree about the s30v. Mine sharpens super easy and I think it's great. However, elmax does the same only a little better.

No thanks on the M4 I live in a humid climate I find that a terrible steel for a folder unless you just like rust under the pivot.

Elmax is fine, no complaints there have it on my Microtech. I still for some reason prefer CPM-154 to S30v, it's tough, holds an edge well and sharpens nicely.

I understand Luke. I just feel S30v was hyped up to much. I have a Manix 2 XL in CPM S30v, I find it to be to chippy for my work applications, I work in a warehouse enviroment and Ive had to work out different chips 2 separate times. Now with my BM Contego in CPM M4, I have not experianced any deformations or chipping of any kind. So for my applications I feel tool and carbon steels preform better in that role. Redmasta, I remember one member here saying that Elmax uses like a tool steel to him, and I agree. I have a Kershaw Knockout in Elmax and just love it. Ive nicked pallets, hit the top of a nail head, with no significant damage. So I'm a true believer in Elmax. I have a BM Grip in 154cm that I've done heneous things to and have had no where the issues thats I've had with s30v, so I agree with taking 154 over s30v for my work applications. Id really like to try CPM 154 and CPM D2.
