Ok, I searched around for this, and didn't see this exact thread. However my Google-fu could be weak tonight. So I thought I would do a poll as well, and see out of two of Spyderco's most popular models, which do you prefer? And why?

I prefer the Military. Mainly because I find the handle much more ergonomic. The horn on the back end of the handle is were my pinky lands. While not uncomfortable, it isn't as comfortable to me. I also like the larger blade on the Military. I like the Paramilitary 2 alot still. And both are excellent for different reasons.

I like both locks, but I think the PM2's lock is stronger. The PM2 has these things over the full Millie: More reasonable size, bushing pivot that swings freely when the lock if depressed, tip up carry. I've carried hardly anything else after getting my S90V PM2!

The Military's blade is technically over the legal limit here in Colorado, so I don't carry it as much as I'd like. While the Military does feel more ergonomic in hand, I prefer the Paramilitary 2 due to the compression lock and tip-up carry option.

Also consider the fluted ti military in this mix;that really makes this choice alot tougher....

I like 'em big, so I vote for the Millie. It is however hard to deny the smoothness of the action and lock of the PM2. When push comes to shove, I'd probably pick "big" over "slick".

I prefer tight and solid over "smooth." The two Para2's I had both exhibited very slight lateral blade play. I'm sure that they would perform flawlessly, but my Military's could do the same without lateral blade play.

Plus, I prefer very strong detents and dedicated left handed knives.

In your experience the Military has a stronger detent? I voted Millie, but a weaker detent is the only thing I don't like about it. I only have one with a liner lock, though, so it could just be mine.

I just can't get over the horrible edge/handle ratio on the PM2. It's the size of a Benchmade 710 but with an inch less of edge, or you could say it has an inch more of handle than some knives with 3" of edge. Maybe if I had large hands I could appreciate that.

Actually the Military isn't much better in that regard, but it's a large enough blade not to bother me, and the handle shape is a lot more comfortable IMO, making up for it some.

^^ Those are pretty much my thoughts as well, I did prefer the ergos on the pm2. The Endura is the reason I didn't keep the pm2, more blade and less weight.

I have three versions of the Military. In all three the detent is noticeably stronger than on the two Para2's I had. I ended up trading/giving away my Para2's.

I agree, the blade to handle ratio was a significant part of why I didn't end up keeping the Para2's. The blue M390 version has been calling to me, so I guess I'll pick one of those up when they become available again, but the CF/ZDP Caly 3.5 and has largely overtaken my mid-sized medium EDC role (the Caly 3 being small medium, and Sebenza/Umnumzaan being large medium for me).

To be fair, I've only ever had two examples of the Para2 in my hands. Maybe I'm wrong about the detent--the blade length, however, is in the favor of the Military. Plus, since I'm ambidextrous, I have some "super steel" versions that keep them interesting.

I'd pick the military if I had to. The larger blade and easier to use liner lock do it for me. It's also slimmer than the para 2.

I had the G-10 version of the Endura, but I thought that the ergonomics and the added weight weren't really worth it. It was a great knife, but I just wish it fit my hands better. The FRN version, though lighter, wouldn't fit my hands any better. Of course YMMV.

I prefer the Military.

The overall size fits my needs better. The handle is more ergonomic and the longer blade makes cutting chores a breeze, especially when using it for food prep, which is 90% of what my Millie does.

Just what I needed, thanks a lot.
