Have you seen what these guys are selling for lately? Holy crap! Must be some of the most expensive spydies I've ever seen.

Chevy, there was quite the controversial thread a day ago about that. According to some, it never happened. My advice, try to be fast when they come out, or forget about it.

You need to realize those knives have been out of production for three years, and S90V and CF are a formula for very high demand. I can't imagine paying some of the prices I've seen on eBay for completed sales, but this is absolutely not a case of flipping and scalping a recent sprint, even if the prices would give you vertigo.

The other thing you have to take into consideration is that there's a big Para2 multiplier at work. Compare the prices for the Manix 2 and Military CF/S90V sprints. The Manix 2 version is actually one of the scarcest Spyderco sprints ever, but the prices on the Para2 are higher than either of those. I think it's easy to guess that the Para2 CF/S90V sprint prices are significantly affected by overall demand for Para2s of all types right now - and that will probably pass at some point, too.

I think that you have made a very valid point. The Para 2 craze, has certainly fueled the fire. Well spoken.

Luckily for me I bought one two years ago. I was just on the bay and noticed what they were going for and I couldn't believe it. I would NEVER pay that for one. But I guess if you've got the money it doesn't matter if you want it bad enough.

Got a question guys the para 2 with he carpenter steel that's equivalent to the s90v (cts 20cp I think). Do you guys think is it as good or better than the s90v? I have seen a few floating around and very tempted to get 1.

That would be the one-word diagnosis. If anyone really needs to be convinced, look at the prices that ORDINARY Para2s sell for (actually sell, not asking prices) on eBay. :( It's like Greenspan's description of the stock market years back: irrational exuberance.

I assume another piece of this, which is a little different from what I wrote last night, is that as the Para2 sprints have come along there are probably guys who say "I've got the green and the blue and the orange, I wonder if I can find one of the gray and one of the CF sprints to make a complete collection?" - which is a slightly different sort of market demand issue. It's a really nice knife, but even the less expensive sprints are pretty pricey today.

I think the only sprint I've seen of the para 2 that hasn't really been popular was the brown/s35vn. All the others have sold like hot cakes.

Wouldn't be surprised if a PM2 in Pakistani damascus would sell out. Hmmmm, how long before those appear on fleabay.

20CP is a nice steel; the near-clone to S90v depending upon whether Carpenter or Crucible. But what's more interesting to me...is that you could sell a PM2 in 440C for $400 if you stick orange scales on that thing. I recall when the orange craze started and the PM2's were about $175. Now, they're double and hard to find.

Today Para2 is certainly hottest Spyderco knife. And IMHO prices for CF as well as Orange are crazy. I saw Orange with original price $117 sold for $400+. And XHP is not a hottest steel. Can you imagine what prices would be in couple years if Spyderco produce S110V with orange scales?????? Probably even Sal will not be able to afford . Fortunately for him, he can make any Spyderco he wants:)
