I will say that I have been wanting a Mr Roper for a while now, but every time I go to order it I change my mind concerning the QMs. I like their designs, they are truly bad-ass!! But, their rep concerning the quality is not something I want to chance with my hard earned money. I always wonder if I'll get a lemon from them. And then I wonder what sort of crap I'd have to go through to get a better one.
But, more straight-forward here, I never have those feeling with Spydercos. My PM2 is AWESOME, and I am not afraid to use it. Get the PM2, you will love it..................no really, you will love it.
I'm not kidding......you'll love it.
They also lie about where they are made. They are not USA made. Lots of info on the forum here on the subject.
Yes, quartermaster is one of the shadiest companies out there while Spyderco is one of the best. No contest or question PM2.
Man, the Mr. Roper is such a tease but there is so much uproar surrounding Quartermaster I don't think I could proudly own a knife from such a company...
There is speculation the steel isn't actually CPM-154. Do u think it is?Allow me to play Devil's advocate...
I do not proudly own one, but I do own one and it's unfortunately a very nicely made knife. I was very deep in the Quartermaster drama, and I still think the company is super shady, but their "behind the scenes" IG account has pretty definitively shown that they're not made in China... or at least not entirely. I'm guessing they don't make them in house but instead outsource a lot of the machining to a machine shop somewhere.
I think it's more reasonable to dislike them for stealing designs and their fascist approach to dissent. I would never buy one direct, but you can get them super cheap on the secondary market.
