Paramilitary 2 w/ blackened hardware (well almost) with PICS

Well I thought some of you guys might be interested in this after reading some discussions about the lack of desirability of a black PM2 w/ silver hardware. Well here it is, one of the later batches of PM2s. As you can see the screws are now black, however, the compression lock remains silver. To me it is an interesting contrast, but I expected a fully blackened one like the one in the catalog.

Also, this later batch of PM2 didn't seem finished that well, the clip paint seems to not be that strong. And indeed, the paint chipped a few minutes out of the box on the side of the clip. Not sure if it was me or it came like that. Anyway, the PM2 feels like a great knife. I hope it becomes my favorite user.

Here are the pics:

You realize tht the catalog images are photshopped to some extent right? Just like most catalog pictures they are edited to optimize the product. Your knife does not look NIB, it appears to have been carried, a lot. There are finger prints on it, andq the clips most certainly don't come prescratched.

Give it a light coat of WD-40 and take another set of pictures. It will look just like the catalog.

Thanks for the imput, but unless you are talking about my flash 1, you are wrong. The knife is brand new, the fingerprints/possible dirt are mine, and you cannot be sure that all clips come 100% perfect. Also, giving it a coat of wd-40 will not make the compression lock black.

The WD-40 will restore te deep black color to the G10. I understand that not everyone knows this. I did ot say that every clip that leaves the factory is perfect did I? None of the black clip Spyderco or other brands knives have ever come like that one. If you want the compression lock to be black send it for the cerakote treatment. It should hold up pretty well, asode from the lock interface portion.

I don't really want to argue but some of the things that you say are pretty contradicting. By saying that no black clip "have ever come like that one" and "the clips most certainly don't come prescratched" you are essentially at the very least implying that every clip is perfect... so I am kinda confused haha.

But anyway, the knife is brand new and I handled it a bit before taking the pics on my phone. I have the receipts of the date of purchase and it came in the original shipping box sealed from a trade. Just wanted to show some of the folks who wanted a full black para2 what it looked like. They may be disappointed that the lock is silver, but I personally like it a contrasting silver. Thanks for the wd-40 suggestion though. I will certainly keep it in mind when my para2 gets some hard use.

No need to argue and no contradictions
refiner, it's a simple discussion. I own dozens of Spyderco knives with black clips, all purchased from various stores online, and none of MY clips ever got to me that way. I don't think that any companies allow their knives to leave the factory in that condition. Anything is possible though.

So where can we order PM2's that will be guaranteed to have black hardware?

You can't have one with an all black lockbar. The knife above is as blacked out as it gets. If you disassemble the knife, you can get the lockbar cerakoted and that will make it all black.

is the blade blacker on these new pm2's? I got one right when it was released and the blade coating wasn't as black as my other spyderco DLC blades

Is the inside of the lanyard tube black? It looks like silver to me. Now that i've waited for this "improvement" I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed.

@nightburn: supposedly this Paramilitary 2 is the latest batch. So far its compression lock is fully uncoated as with the liners. The guy that gave it to me got it from a certain retailer but I am not sure if it is against forum rules to list it.

@Tony: I don't have very many black blades let alone Spyderco DLC blades. However, I do have a slightly used Kershaw NRG w/ DLC and a SOG Flash 1 with TINI. With both of these comparisons demonstrate that the darkness of these blades are very very similar. It is hard for me to draw any conclusions about blade darkness. All I can say is that I am satisfied with the coloration.

@shawn: Unfortunately the lanyard tube is not fully black. It appears there was an attempt to blacken it. But whatever black it is it is simply due to dripping sprayed paint. For me it is around 30% black.

You know if you want the black screws on your para 2 all you have to do is send spyderco an email and they'll send you 6 black screws right? From my experience they most likely won't even charge you for it.

I personally think unless everything is black, I'd much prefer to have silver screws to match up with the rest of the silver parts.

FWIW I have two black bladed Para 1s that don't have black screws, thong tube nor compression lock.

the "scratches" spoken of earlier seem like chromatic aberation (camera/lighting issue) rather than actual scratches. nice knife

You realize tht the catalog images are photshopped to some extent right?

The older catalogs used to explicitly state that such as "production prototype pictured," but the newer catalogs are for sure put through PS with no catalog captions. You can usually tell pretty easy if you are a photoshop nut or seasoned artist. As far as I can remember the last few catalog years had this problem of certain hardware just being all black when the actual production model was different. Just pay attention to eBay or sites that actually put a real picture before you buy.

I called Spyderco's factory store and asked if I could purchase screws (not the clip screws) and they said they don't sell them. They didn't offer to give me any either.
