Paramilitary II problem

So I received my Para II and changed the pocket clip to tip up right pocket carry. When I did the far right screw would go in a portion of the way and then just spin and tilt. It would not go in any farther. I tried the far left screw in the same hole and it wen't in fine. I then took the "defective" screw and tried it in the far left hole. It did the same thing and would not go completely in and just kept spinning and tilting. This leads me to believe the screw is defective. Has anyone else ever had this happen on their Para II?

Contact spyderco for new screws.

Already did.

The only thing I was worried about is the screw damaged the threads in the hole, but I tested the other screw in the hole a few times and it wen't in and stayed tight so all should be good. I'm just pissed off about it. Now I have to wait to carry it until I get the replacement screws which will probably be 2 weeks.

That's a bummer man. If you live in the US it should be sooner than that.

Well they said they only ship parts once a week so I figure worst case scenario I miss the shipping day by one day then it would be a week before they go out. Give it a week for delivery. I'm hoping for the best though.

I've never had that on a PM 2, but the same thing happened to me on my Leafstorm.

You could always swap the top screw into the right side for which you're missing one. It will function and carry fine with two screws in the clip - many aftermarket and custom clips function this way.

Yes I know this. It's just the principle that my brand new Para II came defective. A knife of this cost should be completely perfect in my opinion. Thank you though.

Oh, I completely understand and agree. I wasn't at all trying to downplay the fact that there is an issue, just offering a temporary solution so that you wouldn't be entirely bereft of your new knife.

Oh yea. I appreciate it. I'm just going to hold off on carrying it until I get the replacement screws and make sure it all works out because the retailer I bought it from said he would replace it with a Black version. If it does not work out I wan't it to be new and un-carried for the swap for a new one.

Tchapman's advice is good.
If the screw came defective they wouldn't have been able to get it in right at the factory though.

Did you know these tiny screws should be seated by applying light pressure and turning it counterclockwise until you hear or feel it click into place? They're pretty easily stripped if that isn't done. Also, try getting all three clip screws in place and started before tightening them down.

From your pictures it looks like the clip might be canted slightly and the tightened screws are preventing the last one from going straight down into the final hole. A screw at an angle will go in a bit but not all the way, as you've described. Don't tighten them down until they are all in place.

Yes I know all of this.

I was also wondering how it was installed all the way properly from the factory.

I tried installing just that one screw without any clip just straight into the hole and it would not go.

Ah, okay; that makes perfect sense. With that sort of offer from your retailer, it's worth it to let it sit a week or so if it means you can readily get a replacement. I hope it works out for you with the new screws!

Has happened to me several times. the threads at the tip of the screw get worn. Usually took more screwing with than just moving it once though.

The threads might have some debris in them that's preventing them from contacting the threads in the holes. Since the screw came out of one position with no evidence of being stripped, maybe it's not damaged after all. Might use a magnifier and examine those tiny threads closely. If it doesn't help, nothing lost in trying. Hope you get the issue resolved soon. I just got a new PM2 myself. Sweet knife. I know you'll enjoy it.
