Okay sure this has been asked hundreds of times, but I just got my Sharpmaker and I would like to put a hair popping edge on my Para. What edge angle should I use? Im guessing 30 degree angle and with the flat sides of the fine stones? What do you recommend?

My Lava is hair shaving sharp and would like to get my Para the same way!

Thanks ahead of time!

I'd try the 30 setting and use the flats only, as on PE knives the corners can cause microburrs. If it doesn't get sharper go to 40 and you'll be set, but most of the time the Para will be less the 30 from the factory (my CPM D2 Para was 26 from the factory, my Manix 2 in S90V and 154CM was 20 degrees total from the factory) allowing the 30 setting to work nicely. The knives are hand sharpened though, so your mileage may vary.

FWIW, I sharpen all my Spydies, from Crickets to Millies, on the 40* setting and have no problem getting them well beyond factory sharpness and able to easily treetop and whittle arm hair. My number one recommendation would be to get the UF stones for your Sharpmaker. They really make a difference if you are going for that ridiculously sharp edge. A charged leather strop will take to an even finer edge, though that level of sharpness won't last very long. Still fun to do though.:D

You might want to use a black marker on the edge, that way you'll know if you are sharpening the edge or just hitting the shoulder.

thanks for the info on the upgraded rods and yeah I will have to do the marker test to make sure, I feel as if the angle may be even steep than 30 degrees..
