Paramilitary vs. the Manix

Yesterday, I went to a gun show with the hopes of finding either a Para or a Manix. I came across a Para, but no Manix :(, and after handling it for a while, decided against buying it. I've been carrying a Military for the past 2-3 years and was kind of excited to see a scale down version that I could use for nonwork carry.

In the end, though, it just didn't suit me. I remember reading someone's post that the Military design is best executed in the full sized Millie than the Para. IMO, I agree.

The Manix, however, is a Spydie that I've seen in pics next to a Millie and I believe that this is one solid knife. I hope to pick one up as soon as I can. I'm curious though, how does the lock strength of the Manix compare to the Chinook?

Opinions?

I think Sal once said the Manix is a little stronger then the Chinook. Both are MBC strength however, which is Spyderco's highest lock-strength.

Overall, the Para and Manix are way different. The cutting-edge length might be close, but the Para is a thin light-weight package, and the Manix is a big heavy mega-folder.

I also prefer the larger size of the regular Military.

I'm willing to bet that the Manix and Chinook II are close in terms of lock strength.

The Para is just what it was designed to be, a thin, light weight, folder. It is not a heavy duty folder. It suit my needs perfectly.

I bought a manix recently and am very impressed. It is one hell of a solid knife! The ergonomics are great. The indentation for the back lock is about a quarter inch deep and the knife has a very load snap as it opens. the blade and the lock bar are very thick too. I think it would be pretty hard to make this thing fail.

I have both. The Manix lock is of course stronger but it's not like the lock on the Paramilitary will fail with normal use. In fact, even the Para is overbuilt for my regular EDC uses. But if you're batoning wood and such or are into MBC, then get the Manix.

I went to a gun show this past weekend, looking for a Manix and/or Para. I was able to find a Para, but no Manix :(, and I looked it for quite a bit until I made the decision....to not get it.

I think that the Para is a cool Spydie, but IMO, the design of the original full sized Military works best for me. While the Para is a scaled down version of the Millie, it just didn't appeal to me. Since I was looking for a folder with a little more heft, I bought an Al Mar SERE 2000. :D

The Manix will have to wait just a little longer......
