I have many spyderco knifes and pm2 is the one I EDC the most.I just love to play with the compression lock but only one small problem I have:My finger tip hurt when pressing the lock bar.And I been wondering if I can make some mod for it.
Recently I got some magnets(Neodymium Rare Earth, Nickel Plate, 0.5-Inch Diameter, 0.25-Inch Thick). With four of this little magnets stack on lock bar is actually make it feel like a button lock lol. There are many different size of magnet you can use for you best comfortable fit,Those one just works great for me.
BTW still try to post pic and don't know how lol.First post here.

You might be onto something there. The compression lock is very strong but I find it uncomfortable to disengage as well. Seems like it would be relatively easy for spyderco to use the compression lock mechanism underneath a button style lock on a future knife for strength and ease of use.

Your pictures aren't showing by the way.

That's pretty cool. I love playing with my neobydium magnents (Buckyballs). Seems that if someone were to attach a piece of material to the lock that matches the curve and sticks out a bit beyond when open but flush when closed. In fact I think a lot of people might try this. Thanks for sharing your idea!

That's a cool idea. I don't have issues with the compression lock, but I like what you did there. Is there any movement or sliding of the magnets at all?

Ive never had much issue operating the compression lock but this is a neat idea nonetheless. Thanks for posting.

I have a hard time with the lock, too. But I smashed the tip of that particular finger off in '08 (pics in another thread). Cool idea, for sure.

Is kind of good thing so wen you use pm as cutting tool you can slide the magnet to top or just remove it if you worry it will make the knife close on your finger. For me it just make my open/close play more enjoyable😄

I think lock release is a major balancing act for manufacturers. Make it too easy, and folks will be concerned about accidentally releasing the lock and some will start screaming "DEFECT!!!!". Make it more difficult, and folks will complain about that and some will start screaming "DEFECT!!!!". To further complicate matters, a degree of release difficulty that works well when the knife is used "as a knife" can become painful when it's used "as a play thing" and opened and closed compulsively.

Yap, all true.

I like the Para 2 lock just as it is. But... I agree those magnets are pretty cool.
