I am, like a lot of you, a big Paramilitary fan and have the plain and black-blade plain production versions as well as the blue one from a popular website. I am interested in some of the other versions—the orange one is sold out at the source but pops up occasionally at big prices. Is it worth the extra $ for the XHP steel? The one I’ve really got my eye on is the brown S35VN steel model. I’ve read some of the reviews here and the cost seems fairly reasonable as I’m pretty sure they’re still making them however, slowly. According to their website, it’s an exclusive for Moteng, but they are a distributor and would not sell this knife to me when I called them—they could not have been nicer and I’m tempted to open a knife store just to get these, ha ha. Since I’m in Southern California and want to handle the knife first they recommended Ross Cutlery and Recon 1 in L.A. but both are out at the moment.

I may have to go online for this but a lot of dealers seem to be out right now. Moteng assured me they’ll get more soon. Should I go online to buy this sight unseen? Is S35VN really a big step up from S30VN?

You will read various opinions about S35VN vs. S30V. Some people will say it isn't significantly better but OTOH some expensive makers use that steel.

One reason for wanting the brown PM2 is if you like brown, and it is something different. Plus right now the brown one can be more available than the black and digicam models, and not much more expensive.

As for XHP, I read a lot that says it is a good steel. I have the mule MT16 in it but I can't vouch for the steel from my experience. If you like orange and you are serious about collecting PM2 variations, then spend the money to buy one. They are popular and don't go cheap, plus if you see one for sale here jump on it quickly. They seem to sell fast. I like orange but I wouldn't carry an orange knife except on limited occasions so I won't be trying to buy one. I will be interested in getting the green one if they ever are produced.

Any of the Paramiltary will serve you well. I have a production one that I beat up thoroughly and holds an edge forever even though it's "only" S30V steel. I'd love to get an S35VN and do like the brown color, but color is secondary to performance to me.

I'd like an XHP one too--hard to believe there's better steels than the one I have. It's hard for me to "double-up" and get the same thing I already have, but if any knife is worth it it's this one!

handle the knife first? its just different handle color and steel compared to any other pm2. the second store you stated is pretty cool.. the owners are super nice.. Check them out if you get the chance.
