Hi all,

Just got my 3rd para 2. Love this model.... A LOT!.... Both of my first 2 NEW Para 2's locked up early with the locking tab just at the leading edge of the angled blade notch. Solid, with Plenty of room for wear.

Just got another "New" one and it locks up way over in the middle of the notch. Solid lockup and no blade play at all. Just much later lockup.

Strangely, the blade is ground a bit smaller, over all, than the other two with less belly to the edge of the blade. Blade polish has some uneven polish lines in it too. "NEW".... HMMMMMM????????
Bought from an extremely reputable internet dealer who shall remain nameless.

Anyway, how was the lockup on your "NEW" Para 2's. Anyone know factory specs for new compression lock knife lockup?

I probably woudn't even ask but my first two were so evenly early in there lockup.

Thanks all,

Yours in Spydyland,

cutterman

Both of mine have early lockup.one of my older pm1's have middle lockup opened it hundreds of times and it hasn't moved.

I have 6 now and have had 2 others in the past. All were new when I got them and had varying lockup %. They range from 10% to 75%. The good news is that the 2 P2s that share work duty have both been opened thousands of times and the lockup hasn't moved at all. I tend to obsessively open/close my knives so the locks have seen some use! My experience with the p2 is that there is a pretty wide range when it comes to lockup/blade play/blade grind. I have one p2 that looks like the person sharpening it fell asleep with the blade on the belt. I use that one as a work knife and it works just as well as the ones with a perfect grind so I would say that if the knife is going to be a user than use the crap out of it.

Yep Talley1013. I'm gonna be usin this one and thanks for all the input above. I kind of thought that lockup would be varying from piece to piece and it's good to hear that the locks haven't moved with all that serious opening and closing.

i own and use a lot of knives, but there's just something about the PM 2 that makes me pocket it often. Looks great, feels great, cuts great, and the C lock inspires confidence.

That is just the variance that comes with production knives. I too have had varying lockup. Nothing to worry about as long as there is no play .

I use a PM1 as my work carry 75% of the time. It's several years old and the lockup is still where it was the day I got it new from the store. Personally, I'm not a big believer in early lockups. As long as the lockup is solid, I'm fine with it. I expect lock bars and tabs to stay where they are once they "settle in" after a few initial openings.

I just got a new large micarta 21 yesterday. The lockbar covers about 95% of the blade tang. That's just a more secure lockup AFAIC. I expect it to stay there for the life of the knife, just like my other Sebenzas and my PM1 haven't moved.

If the lockup is solid, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Lockup does vary and that probably doesn't matter. The over-sharpening that occurs I wish would happen less often. I see it on a lot of the Golden models and Seki models with the least incidence on the Taiwan models.

I concur with that. Golden, Seki, then Taichung. I have had variances as much as 1/8 of an inch with NIB Para 2's.

Yeah, I had a nice all black p2, with early lockup, and it got stolen, I just received. A new digi cam dlc p2, and it has like 50% lockup. I liked the early lockup better, but I'm not worried about it

I have found the best way to fix any perceived imperfections on my para2's was to just take them out and use them, next thing I know I have completely forgotten about..... What was I talking about? Oh yeah how much I love my para2's. My para2's see the most pocket time now out of everything else in the knife drawer and every knife I own is a user.

Been carry all black PM2 every day for over a year. Probably opened at least 5000 times. fondling, etc... Mine came at 40 and sits just over 50 now

Same here. My PM2 is my "TV" knife. It gets flicked open and closed for at least 2 hours a day. Sitting just over 60% now. And it is just starting to develop some minor lock rock. But I still carry it every day. I just love the damn thing too much!

The compression lock shouldn't move as much as a liner lock. Most liner locks don't make full contact with the blade tang and mainly contact just the corner which will wear quicker. The long lock can also get a slight bend which will shorten it causing it to move over more. The compression lock mainly gets squeezed, or compressed, and doesn't wear a whole lot. Most wear probably comes from hard inertia openings that peen the metal some so that the lock will need to move over more to take up the wear. If a compression lock develops vertical play it can most likely be taken out with a little more bend added to lock bar so the lock moves over further. Some of the ones I have messed with only have a slight bend and stops at about 50%. To go further needs more bend put into it. Most don't need it and more bend just makes the 'spring' harder to move over. That's been my experience at least.
