I finished my parang today.
It is 20" X 1/8" 17-4 PH stainless steel
Heat treated to condition 900 resulting in a overall hardness of 43 hrc
I used M-2 tool steel for the edge. Edge hardness is 63-65 hrc as welded.
M-2 is the same material end mills are made of. Hard but very tuff.
I used the edge as a draw file on aluminum and steel and it still remanded razor sharp.
It cut through 1 3/8" - 1 1/2" green maple in single strokes with ease.
The handle is made of Osage Orange
