I was sondering what is thought of adding a parasite blade to a larger survival knive. It seems they would be praticle but I have learnt what seems practicle sometimes is unaffective.
Please list your views on parasites and what challanges are there in producing a blade with a smaller parasite blade tucked away in the handle.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act
alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." -- Robert A. Heinlein

I think its a great idea, no idea how to do it though.

Rob Simonich does some really nice ones, and I know Alan Folts is either working on one now, or has finished one (hint hint Alan)

I'm certainly no expert, but my thinking is that a parasite set-up like Rob Simonich's Wilderness would be perfect for completely breaking down a large game animal. The large blade would do all the heavy work, while the parasite would come out for caping.
It would also be the perfect "If I could only take one knife out into the Wild", as the parasite could be for small game, bird & trout, food prep, etc, leaving the larger blade for whatever you'd need a large blade for.
Lastly, they're just awesomely cool examples of high-end craftsmanship. Check out the Wilderness at TheEdgeEquipment.com under Rob's name. Incredible work. If I could only have one hunting knife, it would be that one. (which is really two, but you know what I mean).

I am making a parasite knife now. It is a 10" fighter with 1084/pure nickel raindrop pattern damascus and damascus twist lathe turned double s shaped gaurd, nickel silver liners with mastodon ivory scales pinned on with about 20 1/16" nickel/silver pins. The baby knife looks like the big one, raindrop w/ivory but with no gaurd. It slides inside the grip and is held in with a small spring loaded ball detent. Really fun project. It will be for sale at the Blade Show. Come over to the ABS testing area. Bruce
