paris france laws?

Having no knowledge of the knife laws in France, but having spent time in Paris I can unequivocally say that:

American+ Carrying knife +Paris= A really, really, bad idea.

There are some crappy neighborhoods in Paris and you'd probably feel better if you're armed somehow, at least I did.

I never had the opportunity to discuss my knives with police there, so I can't say how well they'd go over.

I've just been to Paris last week and checked the knive laws beforehand. You can carry a locking folder or fixed blade up to 10cm blade lengh (4") if it's for "kitchen use" - say you want to peel an apple during your picknick or cut your baguette....
I had my Buck Strider spearpoint in the pants pocket and my Leatherman Charge Ti on the belt and the security guy at the Eiffel tower didn't care - totally different then London last year.....
Have fun!

Perfectly legal, you can carry pretty much anything you like as long as you have a reason (hiking, exploring ect.) and if just walking around Paris you can have a folder which needs to be under 4inches. doesn't matter on the lock type. :)

Hope that helps.

Everyone (pretty much) carries a number 8 Opinel so its rare to get strange looks :) I carry a MN Wenger and have never had any problems or offended looks since France doesn't really have the "Knife = Weapon" attitude that our neighboring countries have since so many people have them.

Automatics are a bad idea but Assisted openers never raise any problems. :)
