My dad left me his old Parker Cutlery trapper when he died, so I've had this knife for over 10 years. I've been playing around with it and carrying it for a while now, and decided to show it off after a rebevel and sharpening. Be sure to read the introduction for more details on how it was sharpened.

Does anyone know what happened to Parker Cutlery? I have this knife and had a balisong made by them, but those are the only 2 I've seen.

If you go to Bernard Levines forum- there has been MUCH discussion about Parker Cutlery there in the past.

Parker Cutlery was sold and became BearMGC, which was sold to Victorinox, and was finally bought back by the Griffey family and is now Bear & Son Cutlery. The original Parker facility was sold and is now the foundry where Alabama Damascus is made.

So I really dug something up here. The other thread mentions a Parker Eagle brand from Japan. My knives had an eagle on the blades with a flag/ribbon held in it's beak, and were marked as made in Japan. Is this the manufacturer of my knives instead of Parker Cutlery?

I don't think 'Parker Cutlery' ever actually manufactured anything on their own; I think they were just an importer (owned/run by James Parker). So far as I know, knife designs branded as such were contracted out to other manufacturing facilities. I also have one or two of the 'Parker Eagle' knives from Japan (Seki City, if I recall).

Some of the Parker knives are extremely good quality, there are others that are not, it all depends on who manufactured the knife for Parker.

There are some who spoke highly, and many who speak poorly of Mr Jim Parker, I dont know enough about the man and all of his exploits to be able to weigh them up and comment, put a knife in front of me, and I would probably be able to tell you if its a good knife or not. I do remember reading a lot of very good things about Parkers knives, I havent owned any as of yet.
I agree with Jake-Whew!!...that is a slicer all right -Wow!

So far it seems a good knife. I've sharpened it lower than any knife I've owned and its held up fine, even cutting hard plastic. The balisong was a good one too. I wish I knew.where it was.

Hey guys. I just love sharp tests. I just had to try the grape thing. I used my modded 18$ machete. This is easy to do. Had my gf shoot a video trying to upload now. Its not hard and my machete is not close to as sharp as I can get it.

fun

All it has to be is sharp. Thin helps too. The RADA noted above is 1/32" at the spine.

Yeah, I hope you didn't take my remarks as rude. I was just so surprised. It looked from your video like it was going to be very challenging :)

Not at all. I must try a tomato as well. I assumed grapes would be more difficult, but maybe not.

Overall geometry of the trapper is excellent, and now it has a 14 degree inclusive edge to go with the great geometry. I need more testing to see if it will hold up at this angle.

Keep me posted on anymore fun tests! I love seeing this stuff and trying it for myself :)

Thanks!

I have one planned. Evidently some people find cutting through a soda can and still slicing newspaper impressive. I have a variation on that coming up with the much thinned trapper clip blade.
