Parker LE folding knife appraisal

As others have told you in the General Knife Discussion Forum you are not allowed to ask for the value of a knife. See the sticky at the head of the page titled "NEW MEMBERS :: Please read this :: WHAT IS MY KNIFE WORTH?"

Not trying to be smart it's just the rules.

Sorry I was under the assumption that if I purchased a gold membership (which I did last night after my first noobish post) that I could ask these sorts of questions. Am I not showing up as a member? If you can't tell I am very new to this forum so forgive my ignorance..

You have click on settings at the top of the page. Then scroll down and click on permission groups. There you will be able to change your status to gold. You have to do this to change your status.

I found the place to change it but was met with "There are currently no public usergroups available for you to join." Might I have already voided my membership by erroneously posting something like this prior to changing my status?

In the menu at the top of the page, click-drag on Forum Actions to select Edit Profile. Then, on the left side of the screen, under My Account, select Permission Groups, then click on your Gold status, then Update Display Group.

Under "my account" I don't see permission groups, only "paid subscriptions" which leads to believe that I do not have the membership I paid for. When I click the hyperlink to go to my permission groups it gives me the same "There are currently no public usergroups available for you to join." I'm looking at my bank statement and the purchase did go through so the next question I have is who can I reach out to and resolve this issue?

Don't panic.
this happens to me every year my gold membership lapses and i have to do it all over again.

As in you need to repurchase the membership or is there just a time period in which you are reverted back to a basic user? If so how long is this period as I am quite eager to learn about my knife! I'll take this post down and wait for my membership to come through if you would or any other member recommends that. Thanks

With your knife there are a couple of things that make my eyebrow raise.
"sandbar stag" -what is that? don't know . But if its meant to say "sambar" they should have employed a spell checker/better translator.Either that or its a clever but obvious marketing ploy to make people associate the product with Jim Bowies famous sandbar fight.
There is also the the overt patriotism plastered all over the blade and packaging-nothing wrong with that in essence- but then I note that it was made in Japan or at least of Japanese steel-hardly a fitting tribute to all of those brave volunteers who have protected freedom etc over the years.
440 Surgical steel- must be good its "surgical" right? wrong -I'm asking the question -what is that steel?
Also what is "unique contour design"? that along with the sandbar stag is making me think its cleverly worded to make people believe its antler without actually stating that it might be plastic of some sort. It does look like antler though.
Have a close look at all of the packaging and the knife -does it say "made in the USA " anywhere ? If not it was made somewhere else despite its stars n stripes trumpeting and flag waving.
1200 is hardly a limited edition either.
On a more positive note -its a great looking knife and its true value lies as a gift/heirloom from your great uncle.

your issue with membership might have to do with the software upgrade they are doing. theres a sticky about it at top of page

its an annual membership-so i have to pay up every year-if YOU only just paid you will not have to pay again until a years time. I also read just up there that they are changing the software or some thing so that migt be a hurdle-it will be ok -they are not out to rip anyone off.

Thank you for the in depth review of the knife! I never realized just how questionable the packaging it came in was. That and the fact the steel is from Japan. Anyways I'll finally be taking it out of the box and putting it to good use now that I know it was probably just a very sneaky marketing ploy for the untrained eye.

The packaging is not all thats questionable. Do a search on these forums, look for the name Jim Parker...:p

Your Gold membership has not yet been activated. Depending on how you paid it can take a few days. This is especially true at the moment as the site owner is about to change to a new forum software. You can start a thread in the Technical Support Forum to help bring it to the owner's attention. If there is a gliche, only the owner can sort it out. The moderators have nothing to do with the monetary functioning of the forum.

Note: if you click on someone's name in their post you get a pop-up with various options for contacting that member. If you and the member both have active paid memberships, one of the options will be to send a PM.

That being said, about your knife... Jim Parker, who at one time owned Case Knives, contracted to have a great many knives made in Japan for reasons that I shan't digress into here. Some of the knives were well made and I have heard that they have developed a collector following on their own. As long as you know what you got, you are not necessarily in bad shape.

It works well for me-I note that my membership reverts to basic and thats when i know its time to cough up :D

Interesting I'll be looking more into the Jim Parker knives now. The knife does have a good feel, definitely not plastic but I'm not sure it is sambar stag especially considering that the spelling of it is incorrect on the box as Maeko pointed out! If the membership problem continues I'll reach out thanks.

I did a quick search for both Frost and Parker knives. It answered one of your main questions. Also noted another model by Parker with the intriguing sandbar stag scales. Could it be possible that the antler is farmed and sandbar is more or less a brand name? It may not be sambar but it is antler. IMO the quality of antler stems from the individual beast rather than general species. Sambar is used over Red Deer for instance because its cheaper being sourced from India and parts of Asia. Really good gnarly antler comes from old stags .Diet is a big factor too.
