In the W. E. B. Griffin Brotherhood of War novels ( I think specifically it was in "The Berets" ) reference was made to the spec forces/airborn carrying Parrish knives.
( It was a comment on the order of them - "...running around carrying Parrish knives and eating snakes..." ).

I'm almost 50, so I should remember the name, but Parrish doesn't ring a bell. Anyone know the story behind Parrish? There were NOT that many custom makers at that time ( Vietnam era ).

Rusty,

I've read that (or similar) before in his books, and always draw a mental reference to Randall knives. Don't know why..

I think it is Robert Parrish ....makes (made) quality customs .
The pictures I have seen were hollow handled and all-steel. Possibly cord wrapped handles.
I seem to recall that Bagwell lost his position as knife editor for one of the mags (SOF ?) for a boots and all attack on Parrish stuff.
Don't hold me to the detail...it was a while back and it could have been two other blokes

Robert Parrish made highly regarded survival knives during the 80's. Usually hollow handled sawback survival types - a la Rambo. Some his knives are featured in Leroy Thompson's "Survival Fighting Knives(Paladin Press)".

Acording to Levine's guide he has been making knives since 1972. His knives have been rare on the secondary market.

Robert Parrish is listed at 271 Allman Hill Road, Weaverville, N.C. 28787

All that stuff you mentioned was what I had running thru my mind too. And I thought there was a Parrish making customs back when, just couldn't quite pin it down.

Was the hollow handled Randall 18 cord wrapped? I always figured they were knurled.
Never saw one, though.
The original hollow handles had a rubber crutch tip as a cap before they switched to a brass cap.
