OK all, I'm going to attempt my first partial tang knife(and hidden tang pretty soon, probably). Anyways, I was wondering how wide you make the partial tang, and how long(or an idea, anwyays). I want this to be a small utility/skinner, and am working from 1/8"x1.25" O1. I will normallize three times and edge quench with a triple temper, if that matters towards pickign size. Just want to make sure this isnt' something that's going to break. And also, if it matters, have some 1" square barstock that'll be the guard/top of handle, and rosewood for the main part of the handle.

i think the more meat the better.

as far as width, probably depends on the type of guard you're gonna use. (ie you need enough material left over in the guard after you file out the hole for the blade tang)

length, probably about 3/4 the length of the handle is good.

really, for a utility/skinner type knife, its not gonna get broken unless its used for a crowbar. which i am assuming you arent designing it to be :)
