Just wonder what the general views on this setup are - I just bought a partially serrated large reg sebenza, which was sold to me as S30V. I was not told it was a serrated blade and the pictures I recieved did not clearly show this. It's not S30V either !!

What are the views on a serrated sebbie - I don't like it whatsoever ! Can't get hold of the guy who sold it to me either !!

:barf:

Well first off, its still great cause its a sebenza; second all the steel chris reeve ever used was good. As far as it being serated, well; most of us around here like the plain edge unless you cut a whole lot of rope. But dont be down, its still a sebenza. Kinda like if you had a navy blue ferrari, its still a ferrari right.

navy blue ferrari

Haha, that's a good one.

I tried to hook up with the seller again, if they didn't tell you it was serrated, I'd say that's a problem. As for the steel I'm not sure it's a problem. Many people have mentioned they prefer BG-42 anyway.

Well I don't generally like serrations on any of my knives. I have, however, placed an order for a large classic micarta inlay with serrations because of the way that they have recently changed the way they grind the serrations into the blade now they use v grind with scallops on both sides. This allows the serrations to be sharpenned in the same manner as the straight edge of the blade. I believe that on older models the scallop on one side and chisel grind was the way they did it.

How do you know the blade is not S30V? Do you know when the knife was made? If it's not S30V then it must be BG-42 (which many seem to prefer).

If you are truly unhappy with your purchase and can't return the knife, you might consider becoming a gold member and offering the knife for sale here. You'd be surprised, there's probably someone out there who would love to buy your Sebenza. Sebenzas tend to retain a high percentage of their retail price. Good luck.

I took the blade out the slabs and there is no sign of the magical S - I don't think this is BG42 as I have a classic in BG42 and the handle slabs are different - more of a rough texture ot them !!

Any chance of taking some photos and posting here? Sounds like you have an interesting knife.

just been looking at the knives (really close up) and the serrated one has a strange blade - it does not have the same kind of hollowness as my classic !!

Here are the pictures of Brendan's knife, she's cool :D ......

you are also comparing a new style blade with the classic blade. In these two specimans, the differences are pretty large. You would need to compare to a new style unserrated blade.

Brendan, I see your not happy with the knife, I can see why that thing is a piece of crap. In fact it may be one of the worst looking sebbies I have ever seen, furthermore in my opinion the only thing I can see it being useful for is a paperweight. Tell you what, send it to me I can handle all the shipping charges, (yeah I know I'm a nice guy) and I will add it to my collection of "paperweights" Sincerely yours, BladeGoblin.

tell you what - I will swamp you that funny web thingy you have in the first pic !!

no seriously, that's one of my favourite graphics - is it large or a small ?

On another note - I can't seem to see any manufacturing marks on the handle slabs !!

My serrated Small Regular Sebenza was born in September 2000. The blade is made with BG42 steel :

BladeGoblin, Did you modify your mnandi's opening slot? What is the story behind it? The slot definitely looks different any I've seen.

I personally don't go for partial serrations. To me that configuration is merely a cruel reminder that you don't have enough of either type blade to really do the job. Just give me one or the other. ;)

Here is my Large BG-42 Seb with serrations that was born in 2000.
