Hello everyone,
Dug this out of my Grandpa's gear a long time ago. I got it just as you see it. I remember him saying the end used to be a piece of stag but it was broken. Looking at the nut on the end, it looks like he hammered it pretty good.

How do I go about fixing it up? I'd like to see if someone can make a new end piece for it and leave the rest just as it is. I assume that is not a piece that I can buy....

It doesn't have to be stag, although I'm sure it looked pretty sweet. I just want to fix it up so I can keep using it and then pass it on.

It wouldn't be hard for a custom maker. Or you could watch Ebay and ask around with a few bigger dealers if they have a worn example you could buy cheap for parts.

I'd try to get it as close to original in style as possible. It's a handsome pattern when fixed right:).

I think I'm lucky that its the screw-on pommel, right? At least if I find one I'll be able to put it together myself.

Sure, it's an easy fix if the pommel is the right size and is sized/bored out to your tang nut, just unscrew and re-tight. It's just a tension fit. It's just tricky to find the right size:).

Any machine shop would be able to turn you out a pommel in brass, aluminum, steel, etc. to your specifications. Pro'lly run $25.

Is there a place on Bladeforums where I can post a request for this kind of work, or is this the right place?
