Gathering a list of parts for my first folder... I'm going to do a liner lock and was wondering what you recommend for making the liners and the lock? Material and thickness. I like beefier knives.. so would .060" 410 sheet steel be good?

Here is the parts list:
Two liners of .045" - .070"
1/16" hardened stainless detent ball
3/16" Sexbolt/Piviot with screw
Thumb stud and screw
4ea - Stand offs (interchangeable)
2ea - 3/16"x.015" Teflon or bronze Phosphate Washers
8ea - 2-56 x 1/4" Flat Head Black screws
1/16" hardened stainless detent ball
I'm going to use some carbon 1084 I have for the blade on this one... if looks good I'll swap out for stainless later.

I miss anything?

Thanks for your help.

You sure are making it difficult. You want someone to tell you what to use but are already saying what you are going to use. You can use all the items you list but I would not use the teflon washers. They will compress in thickness whereas the bronze will not. Frank

You left out a stop pin, scales, precision drill bits, tapered reamer, taps to match screws,.

Also ,you didn't mention drilling equipment, tapping equipment, metal cutting equipment, blade grinding equipment, shaping equipment, etc..

You put in the detent ball twice - is this a double blade liner lock?

410 will work, but I would use 17-4 stainless and harden it. .040 might be a better thickness.

On a carbon blade, I would use a pivot with a press in bushing/sleeve for the blade. It will run much smoother and stay that way longer.
You might try a pivot instead of a piviot, too :)

Note - drill/ream/tap all holes at 90°. If they aren't square, there will be problems. Check your drill press and make sure it is set right.

Thanks guys.. I have the equipment (press, bits, belt grinder, taps, etc). Was really just looking to check my materials list I got from a kit knife description. I haven't purchased any of the materials yet other than having the blade stock and handle scales on hand already.

Bladesmith, The detent was a double post (I moved up in the list and forgot to remove at bottom) :-). I'll take your recommendations on the pivot bushing and 17-4

Count, I'll see if Amazon has that book.. love Bob's knives.

Cheers,
Hawk
