There is a post on Face Book Buck Knives section were s guy has a 847 Vantage and is missing a handle screw. He contacted Buck and asked if he could buy one. They said he must send it it with the return shipping cost and they will install it??!! I know Kershaw will send you free parts if you call them including replacement springs for their AOs and a set of screws. I am surprised to hear Buck would not send a few screws? He even offered to pay for the screws to be sent and they said no....Is this really their policy?

It may be that if they send the screw, and he does the work, and something goes wrong, that will invalidate the warranty. Or, it may be that Buck doesn't feel it is in the parts business.

So you have to pay for shipping both ways to get a screw? I have several Bucks and Kershaws, but I can't believe one company will send you parts on a phone call and the other won't send or sell a single handle screw?

Pretty sure you would only pay to get it there.

Call back. Maybe someone else will answer differently.

Here is my experience. I contacted Buck through their chat line on the Buck website and asked for replacement screws for my Marksman.

They took my shipping info and sent me the replacement screws and a coupon for 30% off. I was not charged anything for shipping.

What Buck doesn't want is for you to attempt to repair your knife and destroy it in the process by not being able to put it back together again. Buck usually wants to repair their knives by trained people. In addition it may void the warrenty. But if that doesn't matter, i'm sure they will send you the parts...

If you check the FAQ on the Buck website it states all repairs have to be made by Buck and repairing it yourself voids the warranty. It makes sense from a business standpoint. If you have a screw that falls out Buck should be able to look it over to determine why it fell out. Maybe they need to change out their taps sooner, source screws from a different maker, etc. Besides fixing the knife it allows them the opportunity to refine and improve their product.

I guess Kershaw sees it differently. The screw in question fell out of the handle. I have never needed to use Buck's or Kershaw's warranty service but I can't see how sending a handle screw without seeing the knife would help their R&D crew....Anyway, He found the screw else where. I hope redcanoe is correct in what he said above and the employee that spoke to the poster on FB was incorrect about sending out a screw....Thanks all for the comments!!

Tom,
I am aware of Bucks policy, but I beleive it never hurts to ask.

I've always gotten good service from Buck.Whether it be warrantee work, the custom shop ,spa treatment or just a purchase.

As a side note,I recieved the screws even though the city name was misspelled, glad they used the correct postal code.
