I have been pretty down of late, what with needing a knee replacement and all. My office took note of that and they decided to take the opportunity presented by my receiving a certificate for 30 years service at the Securities & Exchange Commission to give me a party. It was very nice of them and I enjoyed it quite a lot. It certainly helped perk up my outlook.
By way of explanation, the SEC is one of those agencies that get a lot of young attornies fresh out of law school who want to get hands-on experience in securities law before they go into private practice. Some of us who are not attornies refer to it as Uncle Sam's Postgraduate Course in Securities Law. The same also applies for accountants. As you can imagine, the turnover is rather rapid and there are very few who actually stick around for 30 or more years, so I am fairly rare. I do have a significant portion of "institutional memory" to offer the new kids on the block, however, as well as my genreal "Old Fartedness".
