I believe this knife fits in where the Wegner left off. First impression: mixed.
My biggest "pet peeve" is a good quality folder having only one liner. I can't stand that! The Impala has one liner and it is inlayed into the G10.
The blade opens very smooth and locks up very tight. You wouldn't think so looking at the liner, it is very very slim.
I had no use for the gut hook. It looks a little difficult to sharpen also.
The G10 slabs flex when the blade is held in one hand and the handle in the other then pressure is applied. Some others who had the knife before me will concur with this.
The pocket clip rides a little high for my tastes. The pivot sticks out of your pocket.
Now all that aside, this knife knows how to cut! The hollow grind is very nicely done and can be honed to a razor edge. I cut a variety of foods. Hotdogs, carrots, onion, chicken, and bacon just to name a few. But if you want to test on food, the best thing to try and cut is cheese (no pun intended). I think cheese is very hard to cut thin with a knife (cheese slicers work fine). I took out a block of chedder and wound up with some nice "see through" pieces. It cuts as well as any of my kitchen knives if not better! I think the blade steel has a natural "liquidness" on the surface. Nothing seems to stick to the side of the blade when cutting, it goes right through and is ready for the next piece (could have somthing to do with the hollow grind also I'm really not sure).
The next series of photos shows how many different ways of gripping this knife( you may come up with some others I don't show). At NO time did any of my fingers touch the cutting surface.
Normal.

Wow, I really think Spyderco has a winner. If this model comes without the gut hook I'll take one!
