You're not a "welded cable virgin" anymore, if that's what you're asking. :D

To me it looks like there are some welds that aren't as good as they will get with experience, and there are a couple inclusions. Bulk of it looks pretty good.

I'd go ahead and make a knife out of it, but wouldn't sell it. You need to see how well it hardens. That'll often tell a lot, too, as little bits may blow out on the surface where the welds aren't good.

Hope that was the type opinion you were looking for, Butch. Congrats! :)

I have a cable damascus billet I made at IG's last hammerin. I dont plan on making a blade with it soon, as I am waiting untill I'm skilled enough to do it justice, but in the mean time, what grit finish should I get on it, and would normal vinegar work as a strong enough etchant for cable damascus? Or should I see if I can find some HCl ?

Honestly looks pretty good for a first attempt! I need to get in some more practice or you're gonna blow right by me! :)

Lemme know how it goes! If it's not well, come on down to the open forge Thursday and we can knock something else out.

My trade knife for the meeting will be going to a full flat grind tomorrow AM :)
