I was amazed at how huge the Police feels. It is a very intimidating knife that will definitely get people's attention. If you were a LEO, I would think that this knife would be a good back-up to your sidearm. The design of the modified clip point, the Spyderedge, and the variety of grips the large handle provides means that it's bite is worse than it's bark. I really liked the size and shape of the handle. You can hold the handle far back for greater chopping/hacking power and reach, hold it regularly, or choke up rather close due to the choil and nicely designed handle. This knife really isn't my cup of tea for a few reasons though. I don't like serrations, they're great when they're new, OK when they've been used awhile, and absolutely horrible when dull. I can't sharpen serrations without having them look like absolute crap afterward. In a hard use knife that shouldn't be a problem but it still bothers me. It seemed to take a lot of force to use the Spyderhole, not too bad, but it was one of the hardest too open Spydercos I've used yet. Also, while the handle is very large, it's just a little too thin for my hand. The G10 version would probably be more comfortable for me. Also like I said, this knife is monstrous! Even when comparing it to the Military which is slightly larger, the Police just looks and feels like a beast.
The things I like about the Police model are that the build quality is very good. The tolerances are extremely tight, so much so that the spine of the blade looks like a solid slab of aluminum unless you inspect it closely. No blade play at all. Despite the thinness of the handle, it is a very nice shape and size. It has a very slim profile and found that I really didn't notice I was carrying it even though it's so large. Also, even though I personally wouldn't EDC something like this, if I found myself in a self defense situation, I would definitely want this knife in my hands.
The Scorpius is a nice knife. Once again, the thin aluminum handle is a bit too thin for me but otherwise the ergonomics are very good. This handle design seems built for a reverse grip, but I find I rarely use that. I'm not sure why it's called 'Scorpius' since the handle looks more like a dolphin to me. If you switch the clip for tip-up carry, the dolphin head pokes out of the top of your pocket and makes it very easy to index and draw, all the while looking not like a piece of a knife but something like Flipper surfacing from your pocket. Maybe I'm insane but that's what I see and I like it. The blade shape is kind of like a skinner and it slices very well. It's one of the best slicers I've handled yet. It cut through cardboard, oaktag, rubber hose, a rumproast, and a few menacing melons with ease. Something I noticed too is that this Scorpius has one of the nicest blade finishes I've seen. It's VG10 and the grain has an almost Damascus quality to it. By that I mean that it seems to have multiple layers of the same steel in it. I wish I knew how to explain it better or had a camera to take pics of it. I think it may be a result of the heat treatment. Beautiful, whatever causes it, and I found myself examining it for probably more than an hour. The lock up is solid and there was no blade play. Once again, due to the thin handle, this would not be something I'd purchase but it is very nice and I like the blade shape a lot. Thank you for letting me participate in this passaround.
p.s. Sorry for the lame reviews. Hopefully, I'll get better at this.
