The passaround Tyrade came today and I have to say I think it's a really, really cool knife. It is big, a real hand-filler for me. Very solid and smooth. The F&F is great on the handles, CF onlays and blade. The only blemishes I can find are some blurs on the line between the two steels on the blade. Knife fires hard and locks up nicely. So far I have cut open a bag of chocolate cookies (very tasty) and then made angled push cuts on some newsprint (not so tasty, who knew? :) )

I'll have more pics and thoughts up in a review after my turn is over, but this is what I've got for now. For reference, the other knife shown next to the Tyrade is a BM 525 Mini Presidio.

Last, but not least, thanks to Kershaw and Jeremy for the chance to try out the knife.

thanks for the great pics....mine would never look that good....i'm not sure about all the terms for folders...is that considered a frame-lock.....where the lock is actually the piec of the handle material....just curious.....can't wait to see it in person....ryan

Yes it's a frame lock.

Thanks for the great pics. This is another impressive knife. Kershaw makes such original stuff, it's hard to get another production folder like this.

thanks svrider3....i appreciate the info.....ryan

do people generally prefer framelocks because they are stronger...i would think that they are....is that necessarily true....ryan

I prefer frame locks over liner locks for 2 reasons. Regardless of whether the lock needs to be stronger, a thicker frame lock is bound to be stronger than the thin liner lock. Also, most frame locks are reinforced by your grip, since your grip makes direct contact with the lock, keeping it locked. Liner locks are sheltered by the handle scale.

How much is a matter of confidence in the lock rather than performance? Not sure, but I just feel better with the frame lock
