Yup!!
I was on a mission at the Big Gun & Knife Show Saturday and passed up a full curving 1943 model khukuri that was just pretty dayum-ed nice!!
I hope one of the other guys here got it instead of someone who didn't know what it was.
I didn't see the scabbard and the karda and chakma nor the helmet that the guy threw in with the knife,so I don't know if they were included with it. The guy ws asking a good price at $150.00 I thought. The knife was in very nice shape and had been well cared for. It was of the panna buta style as welland youcould see where the full tang seperated into the 2 tips that the steel buttcap was mounted too.
There was no "India" mark on this one!!

I finally got to handle one though and now I am more convinced than ever to get one made!!
The blade at the bolster was a little over 3/8" and had a welded bolster from steel mounted on and formed into the blade.
It may have even been one piece as I didn't look That closely.
The blade had a very distinct distal taper and was about 1/4" at the tip.
It looked like many of the ones that John has posted here from that era with the wider blades style of the time.

Haveing had the experience of handleing one with a few practice swings has made me start thinking twice about te dui chiarra style blade and more about the systernhi(sp?) style blade that John mentioned.
Dayum, I liked that knife!!
One of those times when money had to go for something else and when I figured another wayto work it out and went back to get it...It was Gone!!

That means I wasn't supposed to have it.

I am gonna have to find some more time in between everything else and get that prtotype done!!

Khukuri FAQ

These K43 and M43 knives are nice. Is this the same show Terry was at? You both missed a good piece at a good price, but there will be more.

I will be looking for both of you while on this next trip to the UK. Between the Spring Arms Fair, a couple of real good dealers and a usually interesting auction I hope to find some good pieces to bring home.

Tom, I may just send you a f/c to use as a guide if you promise not to 'test' it. Of course if you want to put a Honey Maple handle on it...

p.s.

The mark M43 or K43 only refers to a model. Unlike other dated marks these knives were used from 1943 through the early 50s. You sometimes will find these khukuris in perfect condition since they probably weren't used in anger past '45.

John,
The only WWII khukuri that I saw was badly rusted, and the blade was nicked up pretty bad.
It didn't have a sheath or chakma/karda and he wanted $100.00 for it. Yvsa must have found one I missed, out of 3700 tables its
possible. My legs are still sore from all the walking.

Yup!! I pass up a lot of tables at almost every show. Many of them have softgoods and ammo and unless you're in the market for that, time is wasted there.

Terry the old khukuri was marked with 1943 on the rear part of the blade. It was on the lower level about 1/3 of the way west from the east wall. I was hopeing that you picked it up since I didn't get it.
I should have asked the guy more questions as like I said he threw in an old helmet with the deal.

I was in the market for a new stainless steel Ruger 10/22 with a matching scope.
I got a nice stainless or brushed chrome Simmons 3X9X32
scope for $37.00 and the mount for $5.00 which I felt was a pretty good deal.
I had to get the 22 at Walmart.
It was a dfferent show with more older stuff than new.
Perhaps that's why the old khukuri was there.
I didn't see the rusty nicked one that you saw.
Too many tables to look over good especially with the crowd.

John I wouldn't test an old knife that wasn't mine. Now a new one that has the H.I. guarantee doesn't bother
me since I have the means to put it in better than new polish.(VBESEG)
Wen the powwow season is over I will try to put a HoneyLocust handle on one if you would like.
Or I could give some of the material to Terry and he could fix it up for you.
I am not much on makeing things to print anymore.
It's kinda like some old G.I.'s not standing in lines anymore,
But I would for you if that's what you wanted.
