It's with much regret that I have to tell everyone that Rob Brown, the iconic South African knife maker, passed away yesterday.
Rob was recently diagnosed with cancer and after a brief fight with the disease, he succumbed yesterday in hospital in Port Elizabeth.
I have been lucky enough to have known Rob for over 30 years, he was my friend.
A quiet, gentle man who spent his days making some of the very best fixed blades anywhere in the world.
Rob was also well known for his generosity of knowledge and spirit and many of South Africa's top knifemakers owe their current success to his help and guidance.
He will be greatly missed by many and I am sure that everyone will join me in offering their deepest condolences to his wife Gail and their two children.
