passing out from a cut?

thought I'd give you guys something to laugh at.

so yesterday I cut my finger fairly deep with my buck 143. I was actually cutting paracord to wrap my friends buck 143. basically I forgot how sharp my knife was (and I had just re-sharpened it) and got real stupid by cutting towards myself, it zipped right through the cord and into my finger. the knife was sharp enough that It didn't really hurt that bad but it went pretty deep and blood was rushing out. so I went to the kitchen, (don't worry, I told my friend to wipe any blood off my knife) one of my other friends insisted on bandaging my up and then I had to pretty much walk her though it because she had no idea what she was doing. after we finally got the cut clean and bandaged I started feeling weak and just passed out right there in the kitchen, woke up a second later, laid there a minute, and went back to wrapping his knife. I don't know why this happens to me, but the last time I had to get blood drawn at the doctors office I started feeling real weak a a minute or two after they took it (though that time I didn't pass out) it's not the sight of the blood or the cut just apparently my body doesn't like losing blood.

anybody else have this issue? I was actually really embarrassed at the time because I was literally defeated by a cut I gave to myself. but now I just think it's hilarious. (OK still a little embarrassing but I don't care if y'all laugh at me because I don't know you haha.)

There's only two possibilities and if its not low blood pressure its your bodies natural response meaning you went into shock. There's a lot of instances where shock is good.

Lol. You might be genetically advanced in some ways actually. Not going into complete details but let's say you get cut. Your nervous system drops your blood pressure and you pass out. The dropping of your blood pressure slows blood loss but in any case the action is built into your DNA not because you are wimpy.

Hey!
If it's me it serious.
I've got no problem bandaging you up though :)

I passed out once. Was bandaging my cut sitting on the toilet lid and went head first into the wall lol

I treated a mom who had previously given vaginal birth twice w/with flying colors and NO epidural anesthesia. I was removing a 5mm mole from her wrist and even with a lot of local anesthesia, she passed out within 5 seconds of me barely cutting the mole. When she woke, she told me she didn't feel any pain from the cut but did feel pressure from the scalpel.

My Gerber artifact opened while I was on a air duct and I cut my thigh deep. I went to the job trailer to take a look and see if stitches were needed and another employee saw the slash and passed out. Shock is not something most can control and has nothing to do with being weak. Now that I think of it, if another worker have come in and seen me with by bibs down and the other guy passed out on the floor with blood all over me it could of been a HR nightmare.

As stated it can be a protection thing from shock , or psychological it depends on if stuff like this makes you squeamish .
I've never passed out well I have whilst I used to drink but that's different :D .
Also as stated the blood pressure can play a role in the change if a lot of blood is suddenly lost .
I once cut my ulnar vein across the palm of my hand every heat beat sent a jet of blood across the room.
Scary but never passed out , the wife does all the time though I guess its a predisposed issue .
Hope you healed ok :).

The specific name for what you've got is vasovagal syncope. Nothing much you can do about it and it's certainly not a sign of weakness. Your nervous system pretty much says, "Hey! We're losing blood!" and tries to stop the bleeding by cutting off the blood supply to a few minor bits like your skin, kidneys and brain. Just get some water and lie on your back with youe feet elevated for a minute or two.

well I tested my blood pressure today and it was pretty normal, 127/56 but I only had a pulse of 42 which is pretty randomly low but I'm sure that wouldn't play into it.

stuff like this for me is weird, because sitting here now if I think about cutting myself it bugs me, but when it actually happens it's just kind of a "whatever" type of thing, I deal with it and go on my way.
