Passing the HHT

Hi all, just a quick question, was with a few friends a few nights back and we got to talking bout blades and edges. To make a long story short, we are all stuck. has anyone ever passed the HHT with a katana? or even a lengthy blade? My argument was that yes it is possible but doubtful that anyone has ever done it for the full length of the blade. Another said that it was impossible because of the type of edge used for such blades and that it would be useless if anyone actually did. etc etc... so, maybe someone out there can shed some light on this. SO, has anyone ever passed the HHT (Hanging Hair Test) with a long blade such as a katana? Can all edge types, convex, v grind, hollow ground, asymmetrical, etc etc etc pass the HHT....realistically?

Getting a edge to pass a HHT takes a well constructed edge with a very fine polish. You can get as sharp as you want with any blade type or bevel type but generally its always easier to pass this test with non-stainless steels.

The largest blade I was able to pass a HHT with was a Swamp rat chopwiler with a very near zero convex. Edge was final polished with 0.5 micron diamond and 0.5 micron chromium oxide, it was uber sharp even by my standards and would pass a HHT at level 4.

I wish I had a video camera that would film it, watching a FB of that size pass that kind of test is impressive to say the least.

So what was their argument?
