Thought I would get my lazy ass in gear and do a quick review of one of my favourite knives: the Crawford Legionnaire.

Pat is a legend of course so I won't bore you with a lot of history, suffice to say Pat is one of the people who pioneered the concept of a 'tactical' knife.

This little guy is ostensibly a neck knife but its big enough to be used as an all purpose carry knife. In fact it excels at this. Its so flat you can stick it in your front pocket, or behind your belt, and use the static line system for a quick and easy draw.

The Legionnaire is made from a single piece of S30V and has a bead blasted finish. It is a little longer than 7 inches, with a blade just under 3 inches. Width is 3mms (sorry, can't do imperial fractions).

It is a high hollow ground, which makes for some really nice slicing action. The one I have is numbered no. 56. Not sure if these are limited or what but I'm sure Pat will make you one if you ask nicely.

The ergos is what really sets the Legionnaire apart. This is just one of the most comfortable little knives to use, even without scales.

There is one inch of nicely executed grooves front and rear of the spine. All other edges are nicely radiused for a very comfortable grip in the hand.

The S30V is fantastic. I use this knife in the kitchen a LOT and it doesn't get pampered. Having a little utility like this handy is very useful and I'm always reaching for it. The fact that it doesn't have scales is a big bonus. You just rinse it off and its good to go. S30V is also very rust resistant, even with bead-blasting.

The sheath is functional, and you will get some typical kydex streaking because it has to retain on the blade but that's kydex for you. The bead blasting is also easy to mark up, as we know.

All in all, a fantastic little knife that deserves some kudos. Great work Pat!

I really like the blade shape. The thing screams for some good handle slabs though. Good review also. I have a pretty old Crawford Point Guard folder and it is a great knife. A very good review here on the forums is what sold me on getting one. May need one of these too!

If you're gonna use it as a necker, I would suggest keeping it as is. Its already quite heavy but its flat enough to be worn under a shirt without anyone knowing its there.....

If you want to carry it like a regular blade, then yeah, scales would be more comfortable.

But it fits the hand real well without them, thanks to the great ergos.
