Patent infringement, who to contact?

So far I count 3 custom makers currently using the talon hole. I don't know if they asked Busse or not if they could use it, but the knives are being sold with it. One is a blatant rippoff.

I don't want to start a big thread about it. I just want to point it out and e-mail the names and pics to the people who handle these things.

I think the only folks that can file a complaint are only the ones harmed by the infringement. And lawyers cost money, sometimes it just is not worth it to go after the ones stealing your designs. Especially if they are just selling a few, an attorney for the plaintiff could mail a cease and desist letter, that might stop it. But it is the person (or corporation) holding the patent that has to start the action. Big Brother could care less.
James,
one who has been there.

Go to the Busse Combat website and email Jerry throught one of the "contact us" emails. Someone should get your message. From what I have heard, Jerry looks into all of these and handles them accordingly. :)

Just curious ...

Anyone have the patent number on the 'Talon Hole'?
Is it a design patent, utility patent?

I believe that this is a Busse trademark, and that no patent has been issued, but still feel free to contact Busse Combat about this.

The bussecombat site says it is a registered trademark on it's anatomy of a busse page.

To my mind the talon hole, though a Busse trademark, is only a small part of what comprises a Busse blade. I do not think Jerry needs to worry about makers who put holes in their steel.

The proper way to handle any infringement is simply to E-Mail Jerry.
I have done this several times without bringing it here. Many of these cases have been handled behind the scenes.

AFAIK, he does have to worry. It is up to the Trademark holder to maintain vigilance in this regard. If you don't protect your Trademark, you are at risk of losing it.

Do you belive that Busse was the first who use that hole? This feature should be patented? I saw for years knifes with a hole near the handle, it could be useful, but don't looks like a brand new design. but once again, maybe I'm wrong.

The talon hole is not a patented feature! It is a registered trademark. This seems to be a point of continuing confusion. Jerry did not have to prove that no one else had ever done this before him in order to get it trademarked. Since no one else was using it on a regular basis as a distinctive feature for the purpose of identifying and differentiating their product from others, and since it is not a feature pervasive and integral to the concept of "knife", Jerry chose to trademark it through the proper legal channels. It is his as long as he actively defends it.

A quick use of the search function could avoid these threads in the future. MikeH is correct, you must differentiate between patent and trademark. Bottom line, go to the company website, get Jerry's email and notify him. Chances are he has heard of it already, but you never know and it doesn't hurt to have other peoples eyes doing the watching for you.

Can I get in on this? It'd be real easy to buy more INFI if I had some extra do-re-mi. I'm suing for OneMEEEEELION dollarz.

A trade mark is cheaper and easier to win than, say, a utility patent. Still, I'm kind of surprised they issued on such a broad description.

For instance, the Spyderco hole is also at the reward portion of the blade.
