Patent Litigation: Looking for Specific Handles

I am a patent attorney. My client is being sued by a utility knife maker that claims that my client infringes the utility knife maker's patents especially the way the knife handle looks.

If I can find a knife handle produced before May 2002 that looks like any of the attached knife handles, it will help my client a lot.

Has anyone ever seen knife handles that look similar to any of the handles in the attached photos?

In particular, I am looking for knives that have any one of the following features:

1. Two curved finger holds at the bottom of the handle as shown in two of the photos.

2. Square knurling over the entire surface of the handle. Orientation or size of the square (e.g., diamond, square) does not matter.

3. Knurling of any type on a top portion of a handle with a smooth section at the bottom portion of the handle.

4. A curved shape or line on a handle that separates the top portion from the bottom portion.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I will check this thread for responses, but my contact information is also below.

If you would like to see higher quality images, I can email them to you.

Welcome to Bladeforums! I'm going to copy this thread to The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum for you. You're bound to get answers in one forum or the other. link

Well, how about 2 out of 4? I have an older Spyderco Endura (the black one) Clip-it that fits #2. Lots of Zytel handled Spydercos had this same type of handles. Also a Speedtech Synergy (green one) that fits with #1. Again, you'll probably find that a lot of knives are shaped ergonomically, very similiar to this. Both of these were made well before 2002. The Spyderco is at least 8 years old, the Speedtech was made sometime around 1999-2000 I think.

Here is another knife that could fit #1, a Case 6265 folding hunter, this one is 45+ years old.

This particular design dates from the early 20th Century by the way.

Those are all utility razor knives. "Sheffield" makes one w/ handle almost exactly like the one in your photo marked "Craftsman".

You should also check out Gerber's ultralight series from the 90's. IIRC, their LST series used handles with a finger choil and some checkering on the zytel scales.

The Dread Thread-Closing Bug is back!

I fixed that one. If you see any other inexplicably closed threads please send me an email.

For a moment there I thought our info-soliciting Esquire might have been found to be troll or fake .

Thanks for the explanation .
