i plan on pulling the coating off my becker necker and adding a patina.

i was going to bo it with a few potatos.i was wondering if i beat or blended them into a paste (like raw mashed potatos) if that would help get an even coating.i dont like the splotchy patina.its not for me.

any ideas?

Yeah, vinegar. I've wrapped a paper towel or cotton cloth soaked in vinegar around the blade, but that doesn't always give a uniform patina. I guess some just put the blade in glass of vinegar and let it set there until it reaches a shade they like.

Just lay the knife (remove handle or wrap if any) in a shallow container and pour enough vinegar to cover. leave for 20 min and remove. Will leave a nice uniform gray patina. I used apple cider vinegar, it was all I had.

Yep, that's what I do. And white vinegar will turn the blade gray, not blue.
