I never thought of myself as the type of person to put a stripper in an acid bath, but here I am.

I mixed glacial acetic acid with water about 1:1 and put it in the office shower with the fan on and door shut, should keep the fumes low. This is the ASH-2 that will be going in, also a mountain duty and a triceratops. I'll get more photos later.

The dimplyness threw me for a loop😄
A previous owner had stripped the coating, the dimples were under the coating apparently. I think it looks great and a patina will look good on it!

That looks pretty shiny before before thrown in the acid. Is that typical of INFI after being stripped or was this a special AZTimT AZTimT stripetition finish?

Curious what you or the previous owner did to make it looked almost like it was polished after being stripped.

Looking forward to the "after" shots. I have several blades that I might want to force a patina on so this has me curious.

Thanks for sharing!

Done! I took them out of the acid yesterday afternoon, dried them in front of a heater to help set the oxidization then rinsed well with water then soaked in a water/baking soda mix to neutralize the acid. Rinsed again and dried. Now I need to decide on a penetrating oil to seep under the scales and give the blades a light coat. The hawk is a CRKT Woods Chogan Hawk that I modded and patina'd with ACV a few years ago. I like how different each of the finishes turned out.

I agree, I wasn't sure if it was coated or just buffed, but it took a patina so whatever the finish method, it wasn't acid proof. I bought it used and don't have any specifics other than it was stripped.
