I wanted to make this thread to say thanks to the members that answered a bunch of my questions and helped me learn to all the above. The bk2 I recieved had an awful grind/tip that needed redone (didnt want to send it in and wait for new blade), and I also wanted to black coating off as well as a patina that looked somewhat good and not just like an old shitty used up knife :)

Here is a picture of it after some re profiling/stripping/mustad-vinegar today.

So once again thanks all on forum for answering a barrage of questions and showing me how to do this. And no thanks because I now have 5 other knives to strip and patina.

ps> The space inbetween where I did not apply is still raw steel. Would applying a coat of vinegar over the entire blade with a paper towel pattern be a good idea? Also, I will be ordering Mcarta scales for this shortly. Will very lightly sanding them to raise the "grain" then applying a light coat of dark wood stain give them a darker shade? Or do you suggest another method.

That's pretty nice the way it is..ya did a good job ! As for the micarta..I cant help you with that one as I don't have any yet (im making my own soon), but Im sure you'll get an answer soon cause we have some great guys here !

That patina turned out excellent. I'd leave it just the way it is.

I agree, that looks pretty cool I'd leave it the way it is and wipe it down with some mineral oil or a silicone cloth once in a while.

To darken the micarta... use it. It will darken within just a few days of using it with bare hands... the oils from your hands will be absorbed quickly. If you want to accelerate the process do things like.. get your hands dirty and then rub and twist the handles in your hand. Get sweat on your hands and rub them down. After a long day put a little bit of water on your hands... run them through your hair and then work them around the micarta... You can use a little bit of mineral oil(a little goes a LONG way) to rub them down and make them a little more sticky to absorb the other dirt and oils..

Dye is unnecessary unless you want something other than that reddish brown color. Just use the blade and they will change pretty quickly.

Well thanks for all the replies, I will try and naturally see how dark I can get them and if its not suitable will get some brown rit dye as you mentioned above.
