Patina?

So I striped my bk9 a long time ago and started applying a patina. I have no idea how to do it but I dipped a Qtip into some vinegar and made some tiger stripes. Is the patina going to rub of when I baton? Is there a better method? I will post photos soon.

Any type of patina constantly changes shape, colour,... So it will wear off, come back,... My BK14 probably looks different every other week or so, depending how much acidic veggies, fruit or sauce it touches. I like the fact that patina's are somewhat 'alive' so to say.

You could etch a pattern into it.
Spraypaint your blade and let it dry
Scratch your pattern into the paint
Apply electricity in a salt water bath and the blank metal parts should become valleys and the protected ones stay at their original height.
Once done remove all the spraypaint.
This 3 dimensional pattern should last much longer than a patina.

Soaking the blade in white vinegar gives a very flat grey patina...Almost like a bead blasted look.

It holds up quite well...

My favourite though is a design I got from Moose...Mustard and a few drops of vinegar brushed on. This one is quite tightly packed but personally to me it looks nicer when the lines are more sparse and spread out.

Like others have said the patina may rub off with use, come back different, etc. I did a forced patina in the past but decided to leave my blade bare after doing some sanding and contour work on it and couldn't be happier with the wild looks of natural patina.

I dunno Cam, I'm not big on forced patina at all, I'd rather let it earn it's stripes. That said, THAT IS AWESOME!!!!. I love that.

Ditto on Cam's patina. I like making them, but I try not to be too attached to whatever I end up creating; it'll eventually wear off. Unless you never use it...which would be sad.
