I just put a vinegar patina on my Case. It turned out pretty good but there was something green on the bolsters and some kind of gunk right above the line where the vinegar was. I won't to put a patina like this on my Boker but don't wan't the green stuff on the bolster. Any body know what to do? Thanks for any advice.

Are the bolsters copper or brass? Sounds like the vinegar reacted with something else. A cotton swab and some jewelry cleaner could fix that up for you.

what kind of case is it?
Bolsters i would think to be nickel silver, the green could be from the brass liners maybe, dunno... should come off pretty easily though
as far as keeping it from happening on the boker maybe try taping the bolsters, or just apply the vinegar to the areas to be patinated
good luck, post some picts:thumbup:

on the next one i suggest wiping the blade with an apple or a lemon instead of using the vinegar, that way the patina will only be on the blade.

did you submerge the entire knife in the vinegar, or just the blades up to the bolsters?

If it doesn't wipe away (or scrub off), I guess you can polish it off and maybe patina the blade again if need be. I suggest only submerging the blade instead of the whole knife.

I put the vinegar in a glass jar up to the level of the knife blade up to the bolsters. The green came off with my mom's finger-nail polish remover. It is a case yellow handle medium stockman. Thanks for the help guys. I don't have a camera sorry.

Try sticking the knife blade in an onion for 6 hours then follow that with a coat of mustard. It worked great on my Opinel and three Frosts Moras.

It's kind of hard to see in these pictures, but the patina is dark and mottled very nicely. Notice how the light plays with the blade in the last picture.
