Patrick Swayze, Pancreatic Cancer.

Always sorry to hear news like that.
 
To me, it's quite sobering to hear this happen to a guy who appears to be very fit and healthy. I sure hope he beats it.
 
Pancreatic cancer has a very high mortality rate. Its one of the worst flavors to get.

True that. From what I've read it has a higher mort than stuff like lung cancer or melanoma, mostly because pancreatic cancer is sneaky. By the time you become symptomatic you're too far f***ed to do anything about it.
 
Actor/producer Micheal Landon (Little Joe) died from that, and he was very much the in shape athlete. I hope for Swazye's sake they have made progress in treatments since it killed my mother in 89. Smoke and prayers sent.
 
It's only a 2-3 % survival rate .When you get it they tell you to put your affairs in order.

Didn't Bill Bixby from The Incredible Hulk also pass from it?

My grandmother died from it back in 1985, and like someone else said, if you're diagnosed after becoming symptomatic, your survival chances are low.

Definitely. In 2004, my best friend in England was diagnosed in early October and died 7 months later; my agent died 4 months after she was diagnosed. But there is always hope. Always. My business partner, when he was diagnosed with colon cancer, was given 5 years to live, at most. That was 22 years ago. Odds be damned, I hope Swayze beats this. He's a good guy.
 
I know somebody who used to ride horses with Mr. Swayze - back in the mid to late 80s. She said that he was one of the nicest and most down to earth guys she has ever met.

What a shame that he has this condition. I think Steve Jobs survived pancreatic cancer, but he had a relatively mild version. I think that the type of cancer Mr. Swayze has is quite severe. Sad. And scary too... as he seems to be healthy and in good shape.:(

There is a surgical procedure that can be performed on Pancreatic cancer patients. It's called a Whipple procedure. From what I've read of it, it's a major reworking of the adomen, involving the stomach, duodenum, pancreas, the common bile duct and the gallbladder.

A Nurse that I work with has a relative who had it done a few months back. I thought he'd have passed by now, but he's still doing everything he was able to do before, although he requires more rest.

Hopefully Mr. Swayze's cancer was caught in time and he can benefit from treatment.
