Hey Gang!!!

So I hate the sheath provided with the gransfors axes. I mean if you haven't seen anything else then the sheath seems adequate and is well made. So you think man owning a Gransfors Bruks cannot get any better. Oh but it can my friend. Thanks to patriot leather. My first GB was the small forest axe. And patriot made me a sheath at least 3 or 4 years ago when it was called sky storm leathers. This sheath still looks brilliant after so many years. The thickness of the leather and the extra protection really adds to the awesomeness of this already awesome tool. But wait there is more. They recently started making half axe sheaths and collar guards. So I ordered a matching collar guards for my GB small forest. I put it on and laced it up. Thought to myself dang that's pretty. Then my second axe arrived after a couple years of waiting I finally purchased a GB Scandinavian Forest Axe. I thought wow. This axe is gorgeous. Time to order the sheath and collar guard to compliment this axe. And I did. Meanwhile back on the ranch. My current SMF axe collar guard slipped down. But it's OK I thought. I will hold a warm wash cloth to it. Let it soak it up. Add some precards leather dressing and let it air dry. It shrinks it enough that it will stay. But make sure you let it dry properly. Because this dummy didn't. With the moist leather and dressing made this leather soft. This usually tough as a seal team six soldier was vulnerable and I used it. I would like to say I did ten years of damage in ten minutes. It was dark out and I didn't really see the damage that was being inflicted. But even ten years wouldn't ever look this bad. I basically ruined it. I wrote to Skyler embarrassed I explained how stupid I was and ruined his fine craftsmanship. Hard thing to admit. But asked them to hold off on sending me my current Scandinavian order. So I could save funds and place it with the new order. Wait time is supposed to be 3 to 4 weeks but some items are created much quicker. Patriot Leather writes back to me and informs me that they will send a replacement with my current order free of charge. How amazing is that. To treat someone who was totally at fault that well. But anyway pictures of the axes all dressed up will be posted in a little while. You can judge for yourselves how great these items make the axe look. But for now a little tip on installing the collar guard.

What you need:
Warm water
Leather dressing
A pick or small hook (I managed with a mechanical pencil)
Patriot Leather uses waxed ritza tiger 25 thread.

What you do:
Soak the leather for 20 seconds.
start from the top and lace all the way down. Make sure you have good light and quiet time. (Another thing you need)
Pull it nice and tight. Each thread will need to be picked with the pick after its laced.
Don't tie the ends yet. Let the leather dry. Then repick each thread again once dry.
Finish by tieing the ends.
Apply more leather dressing and let dry longer.
Then your done. Before I wrecked mine it was really holding up to a lot of abuse.
